The election returns from all over the Province show that the Conser- vatives carried only eight constitu- encies.

The Liberals now hold sixty-three seats and tke Conservatives (eight.

DeWet Hard Pressed by General Knox.

Lonpox, Dec. 8.—A despatch from Lord Kitchener, dated Bloem- fontein, December 7th, confirms the report that DeWet's main force is hard pressed and adds that General Kmox captured a Krupp gun which DeWet had abandoned near the Caledon river and coptinued in pur- suit of De Wet.

The despatch also says that while the Rritish were handing over the women at the request of the Boers, under a flag of truce, at Belfast, December 3rd, a force of one hun- dred Boers unsuccessfully attacked the neighhoring infantry post.
