GERALD GARFIELD Mao- DONALD

Never was a community stirred with greater sorrow than were the people of-.Piessant Grove and vi- cinity on June 2'1, when it became known that Gerald, eight year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Mac- Donald met his death by drown- ing in Winter River.

He and his two brothers. Ray and George. went swimming Bat- urday afternoon and. unknown to the boys, the channel came quite near the shore. Gerald waded out too far, and slipped in beyond his depth. His brothers tried to save him, but the youngsters failed in the attempt.

Gerry, (as he was familiarly known), was a manly and intelli- gent boy. He lead his class at school and was dearly loved by his teach- er and schoolmates. But it is in the home where his loss will be most keenly felt, where there will be an empty chair, and a much loved voice that is stilled. The sympathy of the community goes out to the family in their sore but vement. I'he,Master said: ” Suffer little children to come unto me.”

There are left to mourn besides his sorrowing parents. three sis- ters and two brothers, Blanche, Phyllis, Dianne, Ray and George.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. J. M. sproule on Monday. June 29, at 2 p. m.. and was largely attended.

Pallbearers were Eddie Morri- son. James Morrison. Alfred Mor- rison, Vincent O'Connell, Everett Birt, and Raymond Birt. Inter- ment was in Covehead Road Ceme- tery.

The death occurred at his home suddenly at Carleton siding on Maydo at Allie Gallant in his 48th year.

He was a resident of Carleton for the past 24 years, having mov- ed here from Rustlco with his wife, (formerly Margaret Biacquiere of Hope River.) .

Mr. Gallant was well known and much respected in this community, beins a quiet, respectable person. hard-working and honest. For the past number of years he was em- ployed by the C. N, R. at Borden where his friendship and work- manship will be missed.

He leaves to mourn his sorrow- his wife and family; a son, Vgr. non, recently returned from Japan. and daughters, Pauline. (Mrs. A1. Y" 39l'nl3'd); Angelina, Gloria Jean. and three grandchildren, Marilyn Gallant and Barbara and Brian Bernard. His father and mother predeceased him some few years ago.

The funeral. which was largely attended, was held on May 19 to st. Peter's Roman Catholic Church. Seven Mile nay. Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Reginald MacDonald.
