Tue values of the imports of merchandise into the United States during the twelve mouths ending August 31, 1882, were $741,- 983,917, and for the corresponding period of the preceding year, $643,248,555, The value of exports of domestic and merchandise from the United States during the twelve months ending August 31, 15852, were $752,038,772, and for the twelve months ended August 31, 1881, $394,717,454.

Tue Sun says that the Canning Factory at Souris, P. E. !., is doing a large business ia canning beef, mutton, lamb, etc., the market being principally is Britain. The steamer ‘* Beaver,” from Port Hood, C. B., landed a full load of cattle at Souris on Saturday, fcr tue use of the factory. There are similar establishments at Port Hood which use u about 25.cattle and 100 to 150 sheep sal lambs, per day.

Tut Montreal Gazette (Sept 28) says :— “There is a compl-te glut of cattle in this maiket, under which prices have given way all round, Mr. James McShane, Jr., M. P. P, has bought over 250 head of shipping cattle during the past few days, at from 43 to 5hc per lb.; a few choice at 3gc. Sheep sold at 5c to Sje per lb. Viger market was over- crowded with cattle to-day, good butchers’ stock selling at 4c to 4$c per lb , and common at 3c to 3hce. Abont 1,500 sheep and lambs were offered, the former selling at $4.50 to

7.50 each, and the latter $2 to$t each, as to size and quality. Sales of good hogs were made to-day at $7.75 to $8.00 per 100 Ibs.

Temperance Act Convictions.

October 4th before Alexander Hayden and Peter Macgowan, Esquires, two of Her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace, for Queen’s County, Susan Murphy, of Southport, widow, for violation of the Temperance Act, 1878, fined $50 and costs, being the first offence, and in default of payment forthwith, to be imprisoned for the space of two calendar months in the common jail of the County.

Also before the same, James Murnaghan, of Southport, Lot 48, was convicted for a like offenee, and adjudged to pay a alt ef $100 and codes aot in datanit of pay ment forthwith, to be imprisoned in the common jail for three months, being a second offence of the same nature.

Thomas B. Hall, of County Line, in Queen's County, charged for violation of said Aet, was postponed until the 19:h October, inst., and Warrants were ordered for the arrest of three witnesses who failed | to attend and give evidence in the case.
