SCENT Event

On November 16 at 3:00 p.m. in Main building, 220, SCENT (Senate Committee on the Enhancement of Teaching) will be presenting a dialogue of professors and students on “Academic Responsibility". This will be a panel discussion touching the opinicns of both students and professors on issues such as,late assignments, poor attendance, and inappropriate classroom behaviour. Our student panellists consist of Doug Gordon, a second year science student, and Chantel MacPhee, a fourth year arts student. Our professor panellists consist of June Blair, philosophy, and Ron Collins, business. The Moderator is Jennifer Goddard-Shepard from ‘student services. Students. Professors. Come support your issues in the question period following. Hope to see all of you there.

SCENT is a two-year-old committee with four students and five professors serving as members this year. Our chair and coordinator is Terry Pratt, an

English Professor. We will soon be located in th new office on the third floor of the Main Ann with a secretary and books, articles, and much more to promote the enhancement of teaching.

SCENT recently had a successful teaching workshop for professors entitled "taking stock: How are yoi teaching?" with guest speaker Dr. Alan Wright, the Executive Director of the Dalhousie University in the School of Education.

Most professors do take an interest in their teaching skills and abilities, and are constantly striving 10 better their teaching habits. The SCENT Committee welcomes any input or concerns from the students at U.P.E.I. with regard to teaching. See you at the panel discussion.
