Members of the group were examined by senior Merit l in e examiner of masters and mat- es. Captain H.D. Mackay of Halifax. and were awarded the Canada Department of Trans- port Certificate as temporary master of a powe r boat less than 40 tons, gross tonnage.

A number of other students .completing the course were not examined as they were unable to meet the rigid eyesight stan- dard required of all applicants for Department ‘of Transport . certification.

lnstructor-in- charge. Captain J.B. Palmer. attributes the suc- cess of the current navigation courses to the keenness and en- thusiasm of the students work- ing in pleasant and spacious surroundings. with access to a complete range of modern eq- uipment and navigational aids.
