58 Horses Eligible For King's Plate

‘TORONTO. Jan. 6 — (GP) — Fifty-eight Canadian-bred three.- year-olds are eligible for the 90th running of the King's Plate at the Ontario Jockey Club's spring meet- ing at Woodbine Park. O. J. C. secretary Palmer Wright announced tonight.

Owners of the contenders kept them in the hunt for the King's 50 guineas and $10,000 added money by making deposits last Dec. i. Owners from Quebec to British Columbia are represented in ‘the entry list for the oldest continuously-run horse race in Canada. '

Says Don Black Through With Indians

CLEVELAND, Jan. 4 —(AP) - Don Black is through pitching for Cleveland Indians, club president Bill Veeck said today.

"If he is determined to try iv. again, I won't stand in his way," Veeclr told a reporter.

"I'll give him his release, but I would not accept the responsibIlILy of Don-trying to pitch again." Black. who collapsed during a game in September, is recuperating from brain surgery performed to alleviate a blood clot condition. He was unavailable for comment. Black had said previously he had been assured of another chance to pitch for the Indians.
