Whatever year of study you may be in, or in which- ever program you are enrolled, becoming a member of the Netted Gem staff can benefit you.

Your contribution to the production of the Netted Gem can be a.rewarding and enjoyable experience, as well as a valuable asset. Here are some concrete reasons why you should become involved as newspaperstaff. l. Involvement can be a great beginning, or addition,

to your resume.

Writers

The mainstay of any paper. If you have quick grasp of facts, and can take notes quickly and accurately, consider writing for the GEM. For the first few weeks the editor will discuss the basics of newswriting, and personally edit your work with you to help you write more effectively.

Sports, the Arts, movie reviews, features on almost any topic related to university life, the Senate and Student Union beats-‘4' all't'hese and, mate, just waiting for someone to bite, Chew and savour. " '

And unlike most classes you aren’t told what to write, you volunteer for as much or as little as you think you can handle.

If it weren’t for you, there’d be no paper. You put it all together, decide what goes where and how, try to make our newspaper more attractive to readers, and catch typos before they embarrass us all.

Come along on Tuesday night, bring a friend, and learn how to handle an X-acto knife and an electric waxer (sounds more exotic than it is, for the timid ones out there.)

So you don’t want to commit yourself to a staff position, but have heard something you think pe0ple Should know 'why not let us know? Story ideas do tend to become scarce sooner or later, and you may have something important. critical or even amusingly trivial to tell. Tell us first.

Attending the pizza party is a great way to ask questions and familiarize yourself with the office, its equipment and procedures. Pizza and refreshments will be served, and the gathering will end in plenty of time for you to get ready for the Main Event that night.

If you J cannot make it in to see us on Thursday eveing, come up-to the Gem office between 6:00 pm. - 8:00 pm. Monday or Wednesday, or on Thursday morning between 8:30 a.m. — 11:00 a.m. We’ll show you the ropes then. (NOTE: This is for Orientation Week only. I will post regular office hours at a later date).

We need you to help ensure a successful year for the Netted Gem. When you really think about it, you have nothing to lose and much to gain by joining our staff.
