Rome, Sept. 15. La Fanfulla makes the sensational an- nouncement that the basis of a new treaty between England and the Porte has been settled, giving England a protectorate over Evypt. Fanfulla adds that France consents to the treaty and was to take part in the management of the finances. Lonpon, Sept. 15. Treuble seems to be apprehended in Scutari. <A telegram from there announces that the Government has taken measures to protect the Greek and Austrian Consuls against any attack of Albanians. SELGRADE, Sept. 15.

Trustworthy reports show that the Aus- trian losses between the 4th and 9th of September were about 100 oflicers and 3.000 men.

ATHENS, Sept. 15.

The mission oo Moukhtar Pasha, who was sent to Crete to endeavor to pacify the Is. land, has failed, as the Cretans rejected all proposals made by the Porte, and refused to enter into any arrangements with Moukh- tar Pasha looking to the establishment of reforms in the administration.

CONSTANTINOPLE, Sept. L5.

Mussulmans of the surrounding country threaten to make a descent on Ezeroum and plunder the Christians when the Russian ; troops leave the city. The Armenian Archbishop of Erzeroum has telegraphed to the British and French Ambassadors, at Constantinople, asking that steps be taken for the protection of the Christian popula- tion.

Rome, Sept. 15.

In consequence of a telegram from the Archbishop of Erzeroum, asking for the protection of Christians who are threatened by Mussulman, thirty thousand Russians have entered Batoum.

Lonpon, Sept. 15.

The Times’ Constantinople despatch says the difficulty of bringing about the neces- sary reforms in Asia Minor is increased by the jealously of the Sultan, who recently made significant remarks in reference to ‘‘semi-independent Indian princes.”

The Sultan still considers Midhat Pasha dangerous and ambitious, but it is possible that Midhat will be made Governor General of Asia Minor.

New York, Sept. 14.

Specials from New Orleans report that the climax of the fever, it is believed, was reached Wednesday, which was the fifty- eighth day of the epidemic, thus upholding the theory of periodicity. In 1867 the climax was reached on the 25th day, and in 58 on the 56th day.

an infant which within seven hours died of black vomit, although the mother was ap- parently healthy. Braprorp, Pa., Sept. 14.

A nitro-glycerine magazine, belonging to N. B. Pulver, located near Digolia, on Chartis farm, two miles south of Bradford, containing 70 pounds of nitro-glycerine and 100 pounds of dynamite, exploded at noon to-day, killing 14 men.

Dayton, Ohio, Sept. 15.

Matilda Stanley, known as the Gipsey Queen, and recognized as such by all the tribes throughont the United States, was buried at Woodland Cemetery in this city to-day. Over 25,000 people were in atten- dance, including representations of promi- nent G y families from al! parts of the United States and Canada, assembled in the city for the occasion. It is a well-know fact that for many years past the prices of other Cape Breton coals have been regulated by the rates fixed for SYDNEY COAL; but while it is true that other coals, to get a sale at all, have been pressed on the market at various prices under the current rate of SYDNEY COAL, it is no less true that, taking into account the superior lasting qualities of SYDNEY COAL when compared with other Cape Breton coals, the advantage, both as to economy and convenience, is in favor of SYDNEY COAL, even at a much higher price.

‘The General Mining Association (Limited) regret that they should again have to cautiou the Public against the attempts being made from time to time to induce them to buy in- ferior coals purporting to be ‘‘ EQUAL TO SYDNEY,” *“*SUPERIOR TO SYDNEY,” etc., etc., while some yet more unscrupulous vendors have not hesitated to advertise their coal as SY DNEY COAL (from some designated locality). All these efforts to sell coal by such means are only so many admissions on the part of those who make them of the sranDARD character of SYDNEY COAL.

lt has come to the knowledge of the Asso- ciation that in frequent instances parties giving orders to truckmen and others for SYDNEY COAL have been furnished with other and inferior coal. The Public are cautioned against permitting themselves to be imposed upon in this way.

Every vessel loaded at THE SYDNEY MINES is furnished with a certificate of the cargo being Sydney Coal. Parties purchasing should satisfy themselves by demanding the production of this certificate.

The ‘‘ Sydney Coal”’ is registered under the laws of the Dominion, and unauthorized parties using the Trade Mark ““SYDNEY COAL” are hable to prosecution.
