Barn Burxep.—On Saturday night a barn owned by Mr. Charles McLeod, on the Glascow Road was burned, down. In the afternoon threshing had been done ip the barn but the work was finished about four p. m., At eight o’clock in the evening the barn was found to be on fire and not- withstanding all efforts it was destroyed. Five cows were burned as well as between four and five hundred bushels of oats Two horses that were in the barn when the fire broke out were fortunately reecued Tne lose is a heavy one as there 18 no insurauce on the building. It is not known how the fire occurred.

Large COongregatio:s—Address on “Purity” in the Afterneon.

St. Peter’s mission services were al! well attended yesterday. Notwithstanding the very disagreeable weather nearly five hunired men assembled in the Opera House at 4 o'clock in the afternoon to hear Father Conran speak on “Purity”. He first spoke on tle sinfulness of iropurity and then what can be done for its preven- tion. Rev. Mre Simpson explaired that he had takenthe Opera House for this service, for two reasons; first because of its central situation, and secondly some people would pot go to St. Peter's Church. The bymuse were played on the cornet by Mr. Charles Hine, and the sing- ing was led byRev. T.H. Hunt. The service in St. Peter’s Church on Saturday evening wasalso for men.

_Last evening the missioner continued his addresses on the temptation ard (all of Adam and Eve, and at the inatruction afterwarde apcke on attendance at Holy Communion. The missioner aleo preached at the morning eervice yester-

day.

, Today and tomorrow are the last preach» ing days of the m‘ssion, and the mission will close with celebraiion of Huly Com- muniow at 7 o’clock and7.45 on Wednes- day morning. Public instruction will be held as usua! this afternoon and tomorrow afternooa, and mission service and se*mon tonight and tomorrow night. Collections will be taken at the services on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning to defray expenses of the mission.

Sr. Duweran’s Carmeprat.—The third of the series of Lenten sermons was de- livered last evening to a large congrega- tion, The preacher was Father Camp- bell, of &t. Dunstan’s College, and the theme, “ The Infallibility of the Pope.” Father Campbell’s presentation of Catho- lic belief upon this point was echolarly and eloquent.

Hocxey.—A match game of hockey was played in Hillsborough rink on Saturday morning between the Jr. Abegweits and the second team of the West Kent Schcol, which resulted in a victory for the Jr’s, the score being 4to2.
