Students and Staff of UPEI:

My name is_ Ryan McCarville and I attend Bluefield High School, and plan on attending UPEI in the fall. This article is in support of a men’s volleyball team at UPEI. I have been playing vol- leyball throughout junior and senior high and play with the current Canada Games Training Team.

On the Island, we have many skilled volleyball players who stay on the Island and are forced to stop playing after their high school

careers are over, which is not some- thing I want to do.

Many men’s high school teams are some of the best in Atlantic Canada, and the Island has more than enough talented volley- ball players to have a team at UPEI. I believe that if there is a men’s vol- leyball team at UPEI, it will benefit not only student lives at UPEI, but men’s volleyball on Prince Edward Island.

Well, it seems we have a bit of a trend here. Men’s volley- ball (and the lack thereof) is an issue that has been discussed at length by some folks around the office, so, we'll be looking into it and hope to be able to do a story on volleyball and the availability of other athletics at UPEI before the end of the year.

To whom it may concern:

I am writing to promote the idea of having a university men’s volleyball team. Having a men’s volleyball team at the University of Prince Edward Island would be a great asset. It would increase the interest of more students by spark- ing an interest in UPEI that may not have been there otherwise. | know for myself if UPEI would have had a team three years ago, my decision on which university to attend would of already been made up for me; I would have gone to UPEI. I know now of many men who would jump at the opportunity to play competitive volleyball for UPEL

Another great reason for a men’s volleyball team is that many families and opposing teams would see that the university is interested in building and making positive

Volleyball is an excellent team sport, helping individuals work together to perform in unity. Attitudes fostered from volleyball, affect other areas in people’s lives, teaching them to encourage and support others. In addition, volley- ball is an excellent source of fit- ness, working on the speed and strength of individual fitness, men- tality, and community, altogether helping students improve in their lives at UPEI. It is a proven fact that when people are more active, their educational performance increases. Given this, would not a men’s volleyball team be helpful for the University of Prince Edward Island, because it is the students who attend UPEI who help give the university a great name.
