The medical report prepared by Dr. F. W. Tidmsrsh was read by the secretory as follows:

I have the honor to submit herewith the medical report of the Orphanage for the year i934.

The health of all the children has been maintained at the same high level as other years. there being no illness of sny nature among the children who seem to beimmune to even the common cold.

All bottle fed‘ infants made excellent gains in weight.

During July seventeen children had diseased tonsils and aden- oids removed, while two more had adenoids alone removed. The thanks of the Board are due Dr. J. P. Lantz for many mornings spent in the operating room of

P. E. I. Hospital doing this work. ' a

Toxcld was given seventem children to prevent diphtheria,

and two special blood tests were made.

The food given the children is excellent in all respects, and this is one oi the chief reasons for the continued health of each and every child.

The Corpus Christi Choir- as- sembled last evening in the Knights of Columbus Hall to ex- tend fclicitatdons to Miss Bessie Blanchard, the organist cf Bt. Dunstarrs Basilica, who is to be a principal in an interesting event shortly. Speeches of appreciation were made by Rev. Dr. McMahon and by Mrs. A. J. Macintyre on behalf of the ladies. Miss Angle Doiron read the address for the presentation of the tea service and tray, which were the wedding presents. Miss Ethel Brcvm. who is to be the bridesmaid, was also recipient of a gift.

Ow- ing to unforeseen reverses, a foster mother was not able to. properly care for a child she had adopted some years before and asked us to care for her. These two cases make the third time in history children had to be reclaimed. Numerous visitors were wel- comed and their outside praise oi the spotless condition of the Home was but another tribute to the faithfulness of the staff.

We now look forward feeling that we will still be given that generous support which has done so much for these unfortunate children mtrusted to our care.

The Garden proved very success- ful; the yield was large and vege- tables lasted well throughout the entire winter. The b.eaking up of the lawn proved veryadvisable as the ground is now wsll cleared of weeds, and presented a fine sp- psarance all summe . The large roof was gone over by our man Mr. Buell. who made an extra good job as it remained tight throughtout the entire summer and winter siorma- ‘Tire grounds have been kept in excellent order and the spruce hedges are doing well. The Rink on our grounds provided good roorestkxi for the children during the winter- months. We wsrs sbls to get a suitable horse to do the hauling till the rcadsareopsnforourcsragaln. The oar was overhauled by our man who States it is now in good recreation grounds, swings, sic, were well looked after during the year.

During the school year 1034-30 I again made two visits to the classroom of the P. l. I. Pro- testant Orphanage. On each visit I carried out the same programme as in the other rural schools of my ins, ...... The results of the various tests given and lessons taught were very sstisfocwry. I consider that the work dons by Miss Sinclair is considerably above the average. Both the teacher and the Matron, Miss Sear. deserve great credit for the splendid pro- gress shown. and the sympathetic way in which they deal with the children.

I am again suggesting that as finances permit a new blackboard should be placed on the front wall and low enough for pupils to use.

The Financial Statements here- with, show clcarly the position cf the Ohphanage at the close of the calendar year i934. This committee feels that the year has been one of exceptional success; ex- ceptional because. during these difficult times, this Institution is still able to show a. balance on the right side.

Our management has practised strict economy and kept close watch on all expenditures; the receipts have been so well assisted by numerous friends and societies co-operating heartily with us. that the combined effort has brought about this most gratifying result. We would extend hearty thanks to all who helped so generously in gaining this success and especi- ally do we mention the members of the Auxiliaries ,the individual Collectors, the Fraternal Societies, Womens Institutes, the Children's Aid Society and the Grand Lodge 0f L. O. B. A.

During at our effort on behalf of the dependent children of P. .2.’- I. progressed most satis- factorily, and it should be a matter of profound thankfulness that such an institution eidsts. Few realize what a terrible anliction it is for children to be deprived of their birthright. a home safeguarded by parental love. Anyone visiting our home, ii at all interested must be unpyessed with its home like atmos- phere and the care and attention which are given the children com- mitted to us for shelter. m- it is the aim of the stat! at all times to so plan the child's life that from us it will never know the tragedy of its broken life. -We made one change on our staff during year and my girls are all interested in their work and attached to the children and as experience counts in any line of work our effort has been maintained at a. high standard. my present staff having given from 3 to 7 years service. During year we had 15 admissions. l4 were dis- charged as you will note by adop- tion committeeh report. Our daily average was 49, highest 52, lowest 4i. For first time in orphanage history we had no bottle babies at. end.oi year. We weaned all bottle babies for their Christmas present.

A fam- ily of four children in residence five years went to Old Orchard. Maine, to reside with a paternal aunt. It cost real dollars to send them out to their new life.

Infant twins were provided with outside care by their mother, hav- ing been cared for once a year. Four children went to foster homes. A brother and sister found g. home together. An extensive health campaign was started right after our last an- nual meeting that kept us busy all summer. 17 children had tonsils and adenoid: removed in P. E. I. Hospital. Dr. Lantz doing the sur- gery. Two had adenoids removed, one an X-ray for possible disloca- tion, and it was deemed advisable to have two Kuhn tests which proved to our satisfaction, negative.
