those present were in anything but a preper frame of mind to appreciate the exqisite vielin solo played by Mr. Vinni- combe. This was evident by the fact that the appMkuse Wich greeted his masterly effert was faint, when compared with that with which they received mere trash, rend- ered in the liveiy style of a popular singer Mr. B. Davies, jr., sang in character, the comic song about the ‘* Limerick Races” ; and Dr. Creamer follewed with the good advice to * Leek always on the Sunny Side of Things.” Then came the stump speech by our punning friend Leonard—a great original effert. The ‘' Skidmore Guards,” by Mr. Williams, was a laughable characier ; anc the ‘‘ Rhein Waltzes,” by the Quintette Club, were really beautiful. The remaiving portion of the entertainment was creditable neither to the performers nor the audience. Geod wholesome manly fun is always appreciated ; but it is as astonishing as it is painful, to see an in- telligent and respectable audience receive with apparent rapture, sickly puerilities about babies, nonsensical profanity abeut hen-pecked tailors, and downright ‘‘ smut.” We greatly regret that Messrs. Maynard, Williams and Longworth should have so prostituied their fine talents, and still more, that a large portion of the audience so far forgot themselves as to applaud where they sheuld have hissed or remained silent. A stranger in the tewn would not, we fear, form « very high opinien of the taste of the tewn from the exhibition of last evening. We hepe that, in future, the programme, as prepared, will be strictly adhered to.

Opp-FeLLows’ ENTERTAINMENT. -- The Committee appointed by the Odd-Fellows of this city to celebrate their Natal Day, deserve great credit for the manner in whieh they conducted the proceedings of the day. Tho entertainment in the even- ing alone reflected discredit onthem. Iam sure the Old Fellows in this city are not to blame for the manner in which the Comniit- tee (o. two) mismanaged (what might other- wise have been) a first class entertainment.
