A Rare Honour

It is an hnnour that has come to my constituency only once be- fore and an honour that has come to my native province only three limes. In 1810 the late Mr. F. D. Bracken, one of the membe a for Queen's. moved the address; in i899 the late John H. Bell. mem- ber for blast Prince and after- wards premier of Prince Edward Island. had the some honour. and in 1921 the address was moved by the late Jamel Mclsaac. than member for King's. All these gen- tlemen discharged their duties with much credit to themselves. and It Ia interesting to note a comment made by u» present Prime Minister in referrimg to ffhe speech of Mr. Mcfsaac. I quote:

The passing of this order it? council has pad a stabilizing and salutary effect on the price of potatoes. ‘Fhis was particularly so in Prince Edward Island. and 1 am sure that, should the. potato growers from New Brunswick be asked, they would give thanks to thc minister and his colleagur! for the. passing of this order i11 council. Since the passing of the order the market has been firm. Tihere has been no panic and the marketing of potatoes has gone on 1n an orderly fashion.

This is borne out by a state- ment issued by the Canadian Nu- flung} Railways on the number of on; of potatoes ferried across the strait this season. The state- ment shows that up to midnight of Wednesday. January 32. 4.351 cars of the 1046 potato crop had been carried across the North- umberland strait by car ferry. assisted for a time by the B. B. Bcotis. This was an increase of m earl over the corresponding period for the lust twelve months.

The action of the government has put confidence Into the minds of the potato growers and has shown them that the govern- ment meant what il said Wlltffl it passed the agricultural prices support legislation.
