BRISTOL. England (CP)-The plant was new and featured a clanking assembly line. consisting largely of complicated machinery. But elsewhere, a man squinled through a glass at an ordinary wax candle.
It was the test carried on by his ancestors from time more ' to ensure that the wine being man- ufactured had the required brilli- ance. Despite the advances of sci- ence. candlelight is still considered the purest light that man has de- vised.
The time being tested was put of the largest single order ever received from Canada by the I60- year-old firm of John Harvey and sons. a consignment of 116.400 bottles at sherry for the Liquor Control Board of Ontario.

"It is a wonder they did," pro- tested Peter. ''If those Marsh Hawks had been flying about over in the Green Meadows last year the way they are doing now. they would have found those babies and that would have been the end of them."
Mrs. Peter said nothing. She didn't tell Peter that they already had five babies out there on the Green Meadows hidden in the grass. That was her secret and she would keep it just as long as she could and it was necessary. She could keep it much better than Peter could.
She was spending much time every day just at the edge of the Old Briar-patch where she could look out over the Green Meadows. She was sitting where she could keep watch of that hidden nursery. but she was far too wise to ever go near it in daylight. When she did visit it. as she did every night. it was secretly and watchfully af- ter the Black Shadows had cover- ed the Green Meadows. Further- more. she never approached it twice from the same direction.
Now as little Mrs. Peter sat watching she saw Harrier the Marsh Hawk flying low just a lit- tle above the grass and she knew he was looking down into the grass with as keen a pair of eyes as could be found anywhere around At first he was nowhere near that open secret, but now he was headed straight for it. I suspect little Mrs. Peter's heart was right up in her throat as she watched. But there was nothing she could do about it. so she kept still right where she was. The big Hawk was drawing nearer and nearer to that nursery down in the grass. Would the babies keep still? that was the big question for the anx- ions little mother. How she did wish she could somehow warn them again to keep still.
Harrier was almost to that hid- den nursery. It was hidden from all sides by the tall grass. But
. of course it wasn't hidden from
above and the big Hawk would pass above it if he kept on. He

the little mother watching from the edge of the Old Brlar-Patch he her breath. The Harrier had pass- ed on. He hadn't seen those bab- ies. They hadn't moved. All he had seen was a little patch of fur on the ground. It was a blanket of fur from Mrs. Peter's own coat and it had covered the five little babies who had kept so still. It hadn't interested Harrier in the Least.
