A Popriar Preeentation.—About 150 members of the congregation of Main Street Baptist Chorch ca!led at the resi- dence of their pastor, Rev J A Gordon, last evening, and gave him a complete surprise. During the evening, on behalf of those present, Rev W S Martin, of Leinster street church, with a neat speech, presented Rey Mr Gordon with a hands ( some solid oak sideboard and hat rack in the shape of a Christmas gift. Mr Gordon replied appropriately, and a very pleasant evenivg was spent.—St John Telegraph.

Goose Surver.—Captain Pickard, of Rollo Hoce Company last evening enter- tained the men of his corps toa goose supper ot Large’sreetaurant. The spread was in Mr Large’s bést style, and was greatly enjoyed by sll present. During the evening a very interesting programme of songs and addressees was disposea of, the vocalists being accompanied by Mr B Newsom. Chief Large and Assistant Chief Hermans gave interesting reminis~ cences of their experience as firemen, the former having been connected with the department for38 years and the latter for 32.
