“Fair Play,” writes as follows in the Pictou Advocate under date of New Glas- gow, Oct. lst: ¢

“J mote the remark in your paper made by acommercial traveller in reference to drunkenness in Charlottetown. On the

opening day of the exhibition, in which he

gives it as his opinion ‘that never in all tne towns he has visited during the pas. ten years has he seen such an exbibition of drunkenness.”

“The writer arrived in Charlottetown on Monday previous to the opening day, and had as good, or perhaps better oppor— tunities of noting the amount of draaken- ness, and any surprise was that there was so little, as I only saw about half # dozen during my three or four days stay. I drew the attention of a leading temperance man who ace.mpanied me to the fact that exceedingly few people were intoxiceied, aad he agreed witb me that it was remark— able. Yeur commercial traveller is further misiaken in suppcsing the Scoit Act wae not in fore eat the time, as it was not repealed until Saturday fvilow- ing; yet there were a large number .of plaees where liquor wae openly for sale. No man who wishes to atate facts wonld make any such assertion as the one man in ‘good faith’ by your traveller.”’

Commenting upon the letter the editor of the Advocate saye : “We readily give place to the letter of Fair Piay. The paragraph in question was taker, we think, from a Summerside exchange, “but we inadvertantly neglecied to credit it. The testimony of Fair Play must be taken ia the matter as he is a man of undeaiable reputation.”
