The oldest known specimens of glass come from ancient Egypt whence a knowledge o: its manu. lecture and use spread to Phoenicia to Rome. finally through the years to Constantinople and so to Murano near Venice — where the world- famous Venetian glass was and is created. Color in glass. Those glorious col- ors that. make glassware so exciting are achieved by the addition of metallic oxides.
