Little response to refundable fee

THE FIVE DOLLAR refundable fee set up by Student Coun- cil last semester has posed no problems so far. The fee is a student contribution to the Challenge of the Eight- ies fund for the restoration of Main Building, Cass, and the rink.

“Only one person has asked for a refund so far”, said Betty Johnston, secre- tary at the Student Union office in the Barn respon- sible for the refunds. She said in total there have been three inquiries, but no objections at all to the pur- pose of the fee. “Most stu- dent think it’s a good idea”, says Johnston. ;

Under an agreement between the Student Union and UPEI Administration, all students pay the $5 fee along with other SU fees at registration. The fee was made refundable to al- low students who objected to the purpose to which it would be used, or who re-

Partly due to the stu- dent contributions, the Challenge of the Eighties campaign reached its goal of 5.2 million dollars in late August.
