IstaNpeR Kittep.—We regret to hear that Martin O'Connor, for many years Con- ductor on the Island Railway, was killed on Saturday near Megantic, Me. No particulars of the sad affsir have been reeeived. Mr. O Connor left here Jast autumn and secured employment on the St. John Division of the Canadian Pacific Railway, running between St. John and Megantic. He had many friends in Charlottetown, who will learn of his un- timely death with regret.

Masonic Funerat —The body of the late Dr. Kaye, of Georgetown, was interred in the cemetery at that place on Saturday afternoon. The funeral was conducted by St George's Lodge, A F & A M, Georgetown, assisted by delegations from Charlottetown and Monta-

Visrration.—The Archdeacon of Prince Edward Island and Mrs. Jones will arrive in Charlottetown to-morrow evening, and will be the guests of the Rev. James Simpson. The Archdeacon is on _ his Visitation tour and will inspect all the churches in the Island. Ue wl! distribute the priz’s to St. Peter's Day Schools on Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. Oa Thurs- day he goes to Crapsud, returning on Friday evening. He will preach in St. Paul's Church on Sunday morning next, and in St. Peter's Cathedral in the evening.

Arr anp Fancy Work.—A large number of persons visited the Hall of the Convent de Notre Dame on Saturday to view the many pieces of handiwork done by the pupils during the scholastic year which has just ended. The collection comprises over 150 pieces. Among the number are twelve oil paintings, which were mach admired and show much skiil, especially those from nature, which were really beautiful. There are also a number, of fuzein, pastel and erayon drawings, which are tastefully executed, while the designs are notable for their beauty and originality. The exhibit of fancy work and sewing, comprising sofa pillows, cushions, photo cases, glove cases, bureau sets, tidies, ete., are extremely creditable to pupils and teachers. Specially beautiful pieces of work are the parlor and fire screens, the former done in Roman and Turkish embroidery. The tiny tots of five and six years also have their piecesof work, too, which goes to show the pains taken by the teachers in the different grades: Taken altogether, the exhibit is very creditable, and a striking evidence of the excellence of the training given by the Sisters of Notre Dame.

Ordination in the Cathedral. | AN IMPOSING CEREMONY—TWO NEW PRIESTS ADDED TO BISHOP MACDONALD'S CLERGY —FATHER BURKE'S ADDRESS,

Yesterday, during the regular ten o'clock Maas, His Lordship Bishop McDonald ele- vated to the priesthood the Reverends Ignatius R. A. McDonald and Alexander J. McDougall, of Alberton and Grand River West respectively. Both young gentlemen have been prosecuting, for the last three years, their theological studies in the Divinity School of Laval University. The ordination of priests in the Catholic Church iS accompanied with much imposing cere- mony. The Bishop, vested in full ponti- ficals, and assisted by a numerous clergy, Laving recited the litanies and other prayers prescribed by the Roman Pontifical, im- poses his hands on the heads of those jto be ordained without pronounc- ing any formula, and the priests present do likewise. Immediately after, while al] hold their hands extended, the bishop recites a prayer by which he demands from God for the candidates the Holy Ghost and the grace of the Priesthood. In the second place the handa of the new priests are anointed with chrism by the pontiff. Then the sacred vessels are presented to them with the words : ‘‘Receive the power to offer sacrifice to God aad to celebrate in the Name of the Lord for the living and the dead,” Then the’Canon of the Mass is said by the ordained priests with the bishop, and after the Mass with a second solemn imposition of hands on the part of the bishop, the power of remitting sins is conferred in the words: ‘Receive ye the Holy Ghost, whose sins you shall forgive they are forgiven, whose sins you shall retain they are retained.” Many prayers and Psalms are recited throughout the function.

This ceremony yesterday was carried out with all the pomp and s;lendor possible. The Bishop was assisted by the Revds. James Morrison ard J. P. McGrath, of the College; the candidates by the Revs A. E. Burke and D. B. Reid.

Father Burke, of Alberton, at the instance of the consecrating prelate, ascended the pul pit after the first gospsl and made an able lucid and eloquent explanation of the function ia progress. He set forth in clear aud vigor ous terms the divine origin of the priesthood, its grand dignity, its scope, aims and pur- poses, and exhorted the young priests to be worthy in every wey of their noble calling and the people to take advantage of the ministry of the church to sanctify their souls and thus obtain the light of glory.

The services lasted till 12.30 o’clock, the large congregation maintaining a deep and ab- sorbing interest throughout.

Fathers Ignatius and McDougall, as the new priests are called, went west this morning to celebrate their first masses in their own parishes,

CHRISTIAN closing exercises of the Cathedral] Christian Doctrine classes took place yesterday after- noon at St. Dunstan’s Cathedral. The Rev. Father Burke presided and distributed a large number of valuable prizes to the best students. Quite a iarge number of the parents and friends of the pupils were present. At the close addresses were made by Fathers Burke and Morrison. The classes were then closed for the summer months.
