The 1987 Bio Club Christmas Party proved once again the the- ory that man evolved from apes. The monkey business involved a high consumption of liquor, the exchange of dis- gusting gifts, and the chance to place requests early with Booby Clause. Thanks to ev- eryone who came and made the party such a success. a special thanks to Nathalie, the brave hostess who was so generous as to let us re- live Vietnam in the comfort of her home.

Dr. Louis Hanic for his dili- gent contribution to the mus- sel toxin problem in eastern PEI. Dr. Hanic has volun- teered countless hours to re- searching the cause of the toin and was actually the first person to determine it

was diatoms. He showed us the true meaning of dedica- tion to one’s profession and set a good example for all Bi- ology students.

It was a pleasure to see so many students take the National Week of action se- riously. UPEI, it has been estimated, may be losing up to two million dollars a year in government funding with the present system of trans- fer payments. Any science student will tell you that this money could make a great difference in the qual- ity of laboratory equipment

ahd experimentation on this campus. Many faculties don’t feel the pinch as much as the science faculty does because equipment becomes obsolete quickly in this high- tech era. If our univer- sity is to remain competative ‘with other universities in ar- eas of science, we must have funding available to attract and promote research. Who knows? A cure for cancer could be found by a student from UPEI. ;
