T0: Michael Hennessey, Secretary of Senate FROM: Senator Derek Key I move a change in the calendar for the 77—78 year from the 76-77 year, that

being: that a $50.00 deposit

fee be insituted to insure

a sincere desire to have residence accomodations on the part of the student. The present system allows for an application by the student which is then followed by the business office in

,a confirmation slip. I would suggest that with

a confirmation slip a request of $50.00 deposit be included. The $50.00 would be credited to the account of the student

7 and could be, at the time

of the payment of fees,,

handled in the usual manner.

The present reulations allow for a student to apply for residence/at the UPEI as well as several other vicinity residences; very often the student is accepted by our University and yet fails to move into

the residence or often fails

to even attend the UniVersity. If a student is truly sincere in his application for residence at this University then I do not feel that he will object to this deposit which would guarantee his accomodations. ,Another serious fault with the present system is obvious in the operation

of Blanchard Hall. Often, four students apply "in block" for a particular ’ room. The present system .exists where two students occupy one room. This leads to administrative problems as they are furced to move these students into another room. This inevitably causes problems with the students.
