The Spring Rally of the Eastern Presbytery Young People's Unions was held in North Wiltshirs ‘Un- ited Church on Wednesday, June 22 at S p.m. The opening worship was led by Hampshire Union, which included hynlns, scripture reading, prayer, reading on Handful Of Clay" and duet “l-Iava Thine Own Way, Lord" by Misses Vera Proude and Alice Edwards. The organist was Mrs. Elston. Others taking part were Arnold Easton and Wendell MacPherson.

The delegates were warmly wel- comed by Mrs. Bruce MacDonald of North Wiltshire Y. P.U. This was responded to by Gordon Mac- ‘Pherson of Valleyﬂeld Union.

Ralph Raynor of Mt. Herbert, vice-president, presided for the business period which opened by the reading of the minutes of the Fall Rally by the secretary, Irene Bruce, which were approved as read. A letter was read by the the secretary from our president, Miss Edna Fraser, who is now in Vancouver, B. C. Mention ws! made both of Y. P. Maritime Con- ference to be held in Sackvillc In July, and the P.E.l. Y.P. Camp at Augustine Cove early in July. It was hoped every union could be represented.

'A roll call was responded to by sixUnions with 59 representatives and some visitors.

Rev. Lawrence Toombs of Char- lottetown very cnpably introduced and led a discussion on our theme “Venture for Christ.” lie stated that in his opinion there were only two ways of life: (l) Mater- ialistic, (2) Religious. The fol- lowing of the former leads to Communism and the latter to Christianity. He then askedlthe questions, “What" or “l-iow" are we to venture for Christ? Several of the Group present entered into this most interesting discussion. It was decided we could be personal witnesses for Christ by speaking our mind in public and among our friends. The meaning of Venture was discussed. A lengthy dlscus- sion followed on Sunday Observ- ance-whether it was right to play ball, ﬁsh, Sunday drives to beach- es, etc. We are reminded of- the fourth Commandment: "Remem- ber the Sabbath Day to Keep it Holy."

It was finally decided that we might help in this way by (i) W!‘ own example, (2) unitinl with others in our community to prc- vent Sunday revelry in our own community, _(3) through tho laws of the church and law offic- ers. Rev. Mr. Toombs then spoke brieﬂy on Christian Communis . The Group then adjourned to the Hail to share box lunches and tea served by the North Wiltshire ladies.

Recreations were led by Rev. Howard Christie and some free time allowed all to get acquaint- ed. ' The evening session opened ~v~Iith a devotional service led by Com- wall Y.P. U. consisting of hymns. Scripture, prayer and reading "What Shall I Do With Jesus", by Parker Jewell. Mrs. Ralph Raynor of Mt. Herbert was organist. Others taking part were Eva MacPhail, Philip Charman, and Merwin Scott.

The vice-president, Ralph Ray- nor, presided for the business per- iod. Minutes of afternoon rally were read by the secretary and approved.

A booklet entitled “Living Faith" was displayed by Mrs. Ralph Raynor and it was suggest- ed that each Union purchase one. Also Rev. Howard Christie dis- played Y. P. U. handboo” and a recreation book. Evening roll call was responded to by seven Un- ions and O1 representatives, be- sides a number of visitors.

The report of the Shield Com- petition judged by Rev. J. D. Dav- ison of Charlottetown was, read by Rev. Christie. Of the 20 Un- ions, only six reported for this: Mt. Herbert, Union Road, Valley- ileld, Trinity, Hampshire, Fortune. After much suspense, it was an- nounced that the Mt. Herbert Y. P. U. was winner of the Shield, followed by Union Road and Val- leytleld. This being the third c- cessive year for Mt. Herbs to win the shield, they now retain it. Much credit and thanks are due to Rev. Mr. Davlson for this judg- ing.

The evening speaker, Rev. A. C. Fraser, Valleyfield, was introduced by the vice-president. He spoke on the theme "Venture For Christ." Stated there are two main roads in life: (1) the straight and narrow that leads h life eternal, (2) the broad road that leads to destruction. He re- ferrcd to the 84th Psalm, "Going through the Valley of Boca." If we accept Christ, believe in Him, l-le will be our foundation, chief cornerstone, through all our troubles. in the second place we venture for Christ to help others. He referred to notable characters that have helped others, Paul and Silas when imprisoned, Philip Brookes, the Healing Shadow of Florence Nightingale. We as Young People can help others by church attendance, visit the lonely, be kind to children who need help. They are passing through theVal- iey of Boce. Let us always re- member that Jesus is our Divine Friend and will stand by us till the last.

Words of appreciation for this fine address were given by Ralph Raynor who referred to the motto on our Y. P. pin, "Look Up, Lift up}.

Rev. Howard ‘Christie presided for the installation of officers, as- sisted by Rev. Mr. Char-man of Cornwall who read from l Cor., chap. 12, verses 1-12. A candle- lighting service and hymn, "O Jesus I Have Promised to Serve Thee to the End" closed this im- pressive instaliatioh service.

Clyde River lost a worthy citizen and the community an. aged and good friend in the death of Angus Cameron, which occurred on May 6, 1949 after a brief illness. His passing, while not unexpected came as a sad blow to family and, loved ones to whom, though i‘ I his ninety-second year, he appea ed to But it may indeed be said of him that he came to his grave "full of years and honor" and was indeed gathered as is e. ripened sheaf in the harvest. l-le was a mun of splendid physique, who, notwithstanding the rigors de- manded over long years of farming, possessed e body that never; aeem- ed to weary and a calm butindom- ltable spirit that suffered no defeat. Even in his fatal illness, when his strength was fast ebbing, he utter- ed no word of complaint. His was a serene nature; he was one un- hurried at. his work and yet who accompli lied much by hirefforts- a God-fearing man, and to his fam- ily and those who knew him in- timniely, a humble person posses sing many of the fruits of the Spirit. A loving parent and hus- band, a friend to all who asked for his friendship, especially to the unfortunate and the needy, he has left behind a fine heritage of kind- ness, sympathy, tolerance and hon- esty to his children and loved ones to follow and to revere of his memory. He was born Nov. 19, 1857, and reared in the pioneer home on the Cameron Road, at New Haven, a son of Hector Cam- eron and his wife Sarah MacLean, and of his immediate family,_ only one brother Donald, in Boston, Mass, survives. The States claim- ed him too for sorr_le years, but he returned subsequently to settle on a farm in Clyde River, where he spent his remaining days. Here by his deep love and understanding of the occupation, his industry- and ability, he prospered, never failing n seed-time and as recently as last Autumn attending personally to the cutting of the harvest. Perhaps of all the livestock, horses were his especial liking, and he always drew n rare pleasure from their care. In politics he was e Liberal, and he was a staunch adherent and sup- porter of the church of his boyhood, at Churchill. Mr. Cameron was twice married. His first wife was Mary Livingstone of Clyde River. who passed away in 1901, leaving a family of five daughters. These are Bertha, Mrs. George Wood of Brookline, Mass; Flora, Mrs. Dar-

His second marriage was to Mrs. Elizabeth Murray, who predeceased him in 1942. She was a daughter of the late Donald MacNelll, Clyde River, and of this union three sons survive: William, James and John —William and John on the home- stead and James on the adjoining farm. Two step-sons reared_ with him also knew his kindness and council-Harold Murray, Valleyfleld West, and Alex Murray, who gave his life when only a led in World War I.

Corning to reside in the Cameron home as a child, when bereft of her mother, Miss Irene MecFadyen, Long Creek, now Mrs. Elmer Matheson, Ch'town., was brought up with the same tenderness and consideration as one of the fam- ily and will,,nlso sCIIIEITIIIGI‘ many a kindness received at his hands.

Besides these left to mourn his passing, he lea-ves nine grand-chil- dren to cherish his memory, the two in thehome, Elizabeth and Angus, mourning his death keenly. His funeral, May 9th, was largely attended. It was conducted by Rev. Horace MacEwen, minister of the Church of Scotland, assisted by Elder James MacPhall, Meadow- bank, a valued friend of the de- ceased, The Psalms sung were the 23rd and 121st. »
