Winpeor Fire -The balance of articles contributed tothe relief of the sutferers by the Windsor fire was forwarded today as follows:—15 puirs sashes, 2 doors, 4 boxes grocerie*, 4 casea clothing, 16 chairs, 4 bedsteads, 5 mattresses.

Ropsery at SwHepiac.—WMr. Joseph Gallaut, a hotel keeper at Shediac, kept $400 in « trunk in his bedroom. At some time unknown he claims that his room was entered and the trunk rifled ot ihe movey. The matter has bee. placed iu the hands of the authorities.

Cuance or Date.— The Rev. R. 8. Crisp will deliver his popular lecture on “Odd Parsons and Odd People” on Monday next November 8th in Grace Church. Get your tickets early. Mr. Crisp is said to be ove of the greatest lecturers in the Mari- time Proyinces. Don’t forget that the date changed from Nov 16 to Nov 8.

Price or Horses.—The horse market in Boston during the last week is said to have been fairly active. Consignments have heen just about equal to the demand Prices have not advanced. Prices are: Ordinary to common, $40 to $50, common to good, $40 to $75, and good to extra, $75 to$l50. The latter are for clean, svund, well made and well broken stock.

Bank Srocx Inxceeasep.—A_ special meeting of the shareholders of the Bank of Nova Scotia was held at Halifax on Tuesday for the purpose of authorizing the directors to increase the capital stock from $1,500,000 to $2,000,000. It was unanimou-ly decided to issue additional stock at such time as the directors may decide. One reason given for the issue was that an agency of the bank had been opened at Toronto, and in consequence more capital would be required. The time at which the stock will be issued lies with the directore.

Taz Wixvsor Fire—Fletcher, the Windsor fire bug, was up for examination oo Tuesday, Croxen, who was puton the stand, said that when the tire was dis~ covered no attempt was made to put it out. After they had got away from the house Fletcher went back and locked the door. Fletcher did not give any alarm. McIntyre also gave evidence saying that he had been in Fletcher’s place till two o’elock on Sunday morning, drinking beer aud rum. Fletcher asked him to leave, saying that he had a “‘ job to do.”

Great Presence or Mixp.—William Langan, @ nail maker, who is an employe in the West End nail works, had a narrow escape from death yesterday about noon and practically saved his life by his pres- ence of mind and cool head. Langan was at work on a machine which -vas rapidly making nails when in some way the clothing on his arm caught on the wire which was being fed imto the machine aud in afew moments the young man’s arm was nearly twisted out of the socket | and his fiugers were badly mangled by the | rapidly working machinery. With great , presence of mind the injured man reached for the belt and slipping the latter off the wheel stopped the machinery and prac- tically saved his life.—St. John : Telegraph.
