Deadly Fire.

Sima, Nov. 11.—Official despatches re~ | ceived here from the British camp, in the | Madan Valley, tell of a reconniisance in | force by the British, and a movement as commanded by Géneral Westacott.

The Britien force engaged consisted of } the Dorsetshire regiment, the Northamp- | tonshires,a regiment of Sikhs and two batteries of artillery. This column moved | on Tuesday to Soran Sar, and reached the | summit of the mountain with little resist ance. There the troops found a hastily evacuated camp and soen after retired upon | the main body.

This movement, however, was attended | by serious losses to the British. The msurgent tribesmen followed after the column in strong force; swarming from behind rocks, showing wonderful audacity and keeping up a heavy fire at sbort range upon the British troops. Only the admir able disposition made by General Westa- cott of his troops saved the rear guard, The loss of the British is about fifty men. Of this oumber, the Northamptonshire regiment lost Lieut. Wadde]l and tour men killed and Lieut. Mclotyre and twelve } men miseing; the Northamptonspire also had Lieut. Trent gnd thirty men wounded. The Dorsetehire regiment had Lieut.
