Sir Charles, with approval of bis party friends here, has appointed Henry Dalby as organizer of the English portion of the Conservative party here, to devote his whcle time tothis work. Mr. Dalby has resigned his position as Managing Editor of the Montreal Daily Star with which paper he has been connected for twenty years,

A short time ago @ paragraph went the rounds of the press to the effect that a Mr. Schurmau, of Prince Edward Island, had Inet bis life at Manila, in the Philippines, We are glad to learn that the report is not sorrect. A letter from Mr. Stephen Schur- man, @ brother of the supposed dead man, t»C. C, Gardiner, Esq ,'of this city, con- tains the following :—

“A few days sinve a letter came from my brother at Manila. He saidhe had reada notice of his death in a California paper, but that be wasetill very much alive,— though he had beena month in hospital with fever aod had several close calls during the seige and capture of Manila. Once, he said, a shell over hie bead and burst just behind him. Ap~ other time a rifle bullet just missed his head and wounded the Captain behind him.”

It is worthy of remark thatthe Mr. Schurman referred to is a second cousin of Dr. 8Schurman who is now on his way, as Chairman of the United States Nation- al Commission, to report upon the Philippines. They will meet at Manila
