This past sat- urday evening Jan 16/88 the Kelly building was locked— so much for working on var- ious projects. Mow I realize that supposedly all one has to do is call Security to get it open; however, two difficul- ties arise:

First you have to have money on you to call them from Kelly, especially on weeekends. (Imagine an emergency and no direct line to campus security— anyone got twenty cents? If not then what?

Second, even when one does call Security, the wait goes on and on.

Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 11:00 pm and Satur- day and Sunday 1:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

I am disappointed that an article I left for The Gem, on Monday morning of

last week, was not published. The article was important for

two reasons: 1) it was a

welcome back to the mature and part-time students, from

MAPUS, and 2) it expressed, the full support of MAPUS, for the Week of Action which |

will be almost over by the time this letter is printed. Did I miss some special formula that is required to have an article printed? Per- haps the Gem should list what is required for articles as they have done for letters.

Major points revisited:

The Kelly Micro Lab should be opened “on time and as scheduled” and stu- dents should not have to tele- phone (especially without di- rect phone lines) the Secu- rity department. The onus is on the Computer Center to manage the lab properly, not the students.

A final comment: no one is going to give back, to the student, the time lost during the wait for the door to the lab to be opened. If anyone
