A xumper of young gentlemen met in the parlor of the ¥.M.C. A. Hall last evening for the purpose of forming a Mock Parliament in connection with the Association. Mr. Paton presidedand Mr. B. Higgs was appointed seeretary. some discussion, the House divided. The Liberals being in the majority were charged with the task of forming an administration und bringing down rules of order, ete. Notice of the introduction of a resolution setting forth that it is necessary to pass a measure for the prohibition of the traffic in intoxicating liquors was given, and Partia- ment adjourned.

Government Pond.

Srr,—I see that thare is talk of closing Government pond this winter. Now, Mr. Editor, I do not think that is fair. Where wre we boys going to skate? There are lots of us boys going to school that cannot afford to go to the skating rink, and what are we going to do! I wonder what the pond is for if not for us boys to skate on. The doctors all recommend out door exercise, and what better exercise can a boy or girl have than skating? I wonder if our health officers or city councillors were ever boys themselves. Us West Kent Street school boys and girls are going to rebe’, If the pond ,is not left open we will get up a petition and get the parents to sign.

Souris items.

Several schooners are now loading at this port with potatoes and oats for Ameri- can and Newfoundiand markets. Most of the vessels engaged in this business (ex cepting our own schooners) are Lunenburg vessels.

Repairs are being at present prosecuted on the breakwater here under the super- {vision of Mr. John Cantwell. This is a | move in the right direction; and, as in the

past, the Dominion Government is not un- mindful of the wants of the people of Souris.

Three Rivers Ploughing Maich.

The above match took place on the 20th inst. Though the day was extremely cold it did not prevent the sturdy yeomanry of New Perth, Baldwin’s Road, Rvoseneath and Union Road from turning out once more to win agrarian honors.

The regulations for the guidance of pleughmen and judges were as follows: The sod, 5x8 inches. The crown, single or double. Straight cutting. Best furrow and the best comb.

When the ploughwnen left the field, Messrs. Donald Stewart, Wm. McIntyre and Alex. Kennedy for the time being took possession, and after due consideration made out the following prize list in aecord- ance with the above regulations :—
