The Saul-cl was lent to deliver ballot boxel for thl Federal llee- tion along the Labrador collt around the first of June. Heavy lee was encountered which broke a pro- pellor on the boat thul forcing It to turn back before lll the boxes were delivered.

Captain Chouinlrd ltltad thlt belts of heavy lee 40 to 50 miles wide lay along the Labrador cont- line. This belt which he termed the Arctic pack moved with the tide so that the Saurel was forced to keep battling it or else be curled back.

An eyewitness, lslonud Arlen- ault, stated he sow a truck with no headlights pull in behind two boys lnd two girls who were walk- ing eastward on the right hand llde of the 8t. Peter's highway lt St. Avlrds. The truck hit them and kept on going.

"I was walking towards them on the same side of the road and had to jump into the ditch to get out of the way of the truck", witness stated.

Running back to the BA. serv- ice station to phone for ui ambul- ance, witness slid he saw the tall light of the receding trilck flash on and off.

I-Ie returned to the scene of‘ the accident and heard Joyce Gallant, who was lying on the road ask "Where ls Sylvia?" Sylvia Mac- Kly was also lying on the road but said nothing.

Questioned by Mr. Nicholson, the witness stated that he could not see who was driving but he noticed the figure in the driver's seat in the truck was bent over. He did not think the group were walking om the pavement.

Answering questions from the jurymen. witness said he did not hear a. horn. One of the group was wheeling l. bicycle.

The next witness, Noel Mac- Millarl, stated that he was one of ‘the party lnd that about mid- night he was coming from “mind- ing house”. Coming up by the canning factory he changed over to the Inside “because 1'. lud the wheel".
