The force acts as provincial po- lice in all provinces but Ontario and Quebec. It also has about 125 separate contracts with municipal- ities to carrykout local policing duties. i

The first province to be affected by the rising cost of mounted po- lice protection is British Colum- bia. A ' Commissioner C. E. head of the RCMP . at Vancouver, advised municipal officials by letter of the increase.

Contracts will be renewed June 1 with the 7.3 municipalities of more than 5.000 ropulation and 21 mailer commun t' in B.C. that depend on the RCMP for policing.
