Tue Caxnapa Artis mic Live.—In an inter- view yesterday with one of the directors of the Canada Atlantic Steamship Company, he informed a Chronicle reporter, in answer to an inquiry, thatthe contract for steamers was now closed, and the greater portion of the required capital had been subscribed. He remarked that it was amusing to note the in- terest now manifested by parties outside of the city, interested in steam communication with Boston, in the shipping requirements of Halifax and Prince Edward Island, which he thought proof conclusive to Halifax citizens of che soundness of the enterprise of the Canada Atlantic ¢ ‘ompany.— Hx. Tue Lycevm.-—‘‘ Kathleen Mavourneen,’”’ one of the neatest and prettiest Lrish dramas ever written, was the attraction offered last night. The audience was the largest the Company haye drawn so far, a gratifying proof to Manager Webber that his efforts are duly appreciated. Of the actors last night all were excellent. Miss Grey’s ‘‘ Kathleen,” iu both the light and serious phases of the char- acter, left nothing to be desired. Mr. Mills, as ‘*Terrence,” put in some vigorous work; Mr. Parrish was excellent as ‘‘ Bernard Kav- anagh,” Messrs. Bedell, Sullivan, Vaughan and Carroll showed up to advantage, while Mr. Webber was very funny as “‘ Billy But- toncap.” The farce ‘A Silent Woman” gave Blanche Hillman a good chance, and Mr. Farish and Mrs. Hillman were very entertain- ing. Mr. Webber as “‘ Smirk” created roars of laughter by his exceeedingly quaint and witty sayings and bysiness, To-night ‘‘ The Little Detective’ will be given, and will prove very interesting.

A GREAT CRIME AVENGED.

At six o’elock this morning three hun- dred policemen, armed with rifles, bayo- nets, revolvers and full cartridge boxes, were on duty at the jail in which the Anarchists were confined. A battallon of three companies of police that had been quartered in the jail and criminal court building since the new orders went into torce, will do duty inside the building to- day. In addition to the battalion on the inside there will bea force on the outside with rifles, and they will surround the en- tire block in which the jail is situated.

At 10.15 a. m., the Governor announced his final and irrevocable decision. He em- phatically refused to further interfere in behalf of the cendemned Anarchists. They were hanged at Chicago, at 11.50 o'clock, in Cook County jail. It lacked just seven minutes and a half of the hour of high noon, when a single white shrouded figure, above which was a face of yellowish pallor —the face of August Spies, passed the first of the gai- lows. Spies looked calm and glanced at the reporters with a trace of his old time cynical smile. He walked firmly over the drop to the furthest edge of the gallows. Following close came Fischer. Fischer's countenance had a _ peculiar glisten, totally unlike the ashness of Engell’s heavy features, and in strong con- trast with the dead lack cof color on the pinched linaments of Parsons. The jaunty, vivacions Texan came last. The four men were placed upon the trap. All were ghastly pale. Spies’ hair seemed to literally stand on end. Engell’s shoul- ders seemed nearly to touch the top of his head. Parsons set his teeth firmly to- gether, and looked duwn calmly upon the crowd beneath. His face was the face of a man of iron. his unflinching nerve ran through the spec- tators.
The shrouds had already been adjusted before the men left their cells, and nothing remained but to encircle each neck with the noose and to cover each head with the cap. Jailor Fulz approached Spies. A quick movement, so that it can hardly be noticed, and the rope is around his neck and being drawn _ taut. There was not a movement of a muscle. Ina momentthe throat of Fischer was encircled by the noose. Engells* did not move as the operation was being per- formed. Parsons rivited his gaze on the ground, and his features were contracted. All four were evidently determined to die game.
A deputy approached Spies with the cap in his hand. The condemned man said something in an under-tone. He was evi- dently remonstrating. There was a mo- ment of death-like silence. Then the clear, well modulated voice of Parsons broke the oppressive silence. ‘There was not that en- thusisastic ring to it which marked the utterances of the others. ‘‘ Shall I be al-

lowed to speak? Oh! men and women of dear America.” (the Sheriff shifted his position a little.)
He was several feet away from the speaker, but the speaker must have seen the motion through the folds of his cap. He said, ‘*Let me speak Sheriff Watson ; let the voice of the people be heard.” Down went the drop. The last words of Parsons had died upon hislips. The four bodies swung in the air, and the Haymarket massacre was avenged.
Terrible Suffering at Sea. New York, Nov. 11.
The Barque Union, from Pernambuco, has arrived, bringing six shipwrecked sail- ors of the barque August, of Stockholm, which foundered in a hurricane Oct 15, and after the captain, mate and one sailor were knocked overboard and lost. The men were picked up from a small boat. Their sufferings were great, and they were about drawing lots to determine which should be killed and eaten when help ar- rived,

President Grevy Speaks. Paris, Nov. ll.
President Grevy, in an interview with 4 number of members of the Chamber of Deputies to-day, said he believed Mr, Wilson innocent and would confound his enemies. He declared should his guilt be proved he would resign the presidency in- stantly.
A Splendid Passage.

The Dominion Line steamer Vancouver arrived to-night at eight o’clock. She is the first winter weekly mail boat, and had a splendid passage, making one of the best trips of the season.

THE CHAMPION CANNOT BE BEATEN—SOME
EXTRAORDINARY PLAY.
Last evening the champion, Harvey Me- Keuna, gave another of his exhibitions before a large audience at the Old London Billiard Hall. Although Mr. McKenna has not been well for some days past, his play was fully up tothe standard. When playing he kept the audience in breathless suspense. At the first of the yame the champicn was unfortunate. After making 374 points he failed to score on a very difii- cult shot). He then ran several breaks, failing to bring the balls into position, but at last he succeeded and finished the game by scoring the 500 points required, his opponent having scored 39, The game being over, the champion then gave an exhibition of fancy shots, which took the audience by storm. The applause which greeted him after each shut seemed to in- spire him’ with fresh courage. It is an- nounced that the exhibition to-night will be of an entirely different character, Mr.
McKenna playing the balk line game against his oppenent’s straight play. It
was also announced that Mr. McKenna has a number of fancy shots which he has not yetshown. We would advise parties who wish to see a game of skill to attend at the Old London. Billiard Hall to-night. Mr. McKenna has certainly not his equal on this side of the Atlantic. We are given to understand that it is the champion’s intention (in company with the elebrated player Jacob Schaffer) to visit the principal cities in Europe soon, where we hope he may meet with as good a recep- tion and be as successful as he has been in Charlottetown. Builders may offer for the whole work, or for the separate parts indicated in the forms of Proposal, but those offering for the whole work will be required to fill up and sign each of the said forms; or
(6) For what annual subsidy a private company will supply the said City for tire purposes and for watering the streets with eighty frost-prvof hydrants, having a pressure sufticient to throw water toa height of at least sixty feet in every pert of the City, and the annual rate for each additional hydrant which the said City may from time to time require; as also the maximum annual rate per faucet at which the company will supply water to c tizens fur private use, each tender to expressly stipulate that the water wall be taken from the sources, and the whvie work be done according to the specifications and plans referred to in paragraph (a); or
(c) For what amount the work wi!l be con- structed ta be ownea by the City; or for what annual subsidy a private Gompany will supply the said city fur fire purposes and private use as mentioned in paragraph (b), the bidder to name his source of water supply, and accompany his tander with plans and specifications.
Each tender under paragraphs (b) and (c) must be accompanied by an accepted bank cheque, payable to the order of the Water Commissioners for the City of Charlottetown for the sum of Five Thousand Dollars, This cheque will be forfeited if the party decline the contract, or fail to com- plete the work contracted for, and will be returned in case of non-acce ptance of tender.
