But when, to all its primal bloom, This earth shall be restored,

And man, to bliss and innocence,— None knowth but the Lord.

The London papers publish a despatch from Mr. Seward, which was commuuicaied to them through the American Legation. | It is a general acknowledgment of the many addresses of eon- dolence from Great Britain to President Johnson on the assassination of Mr. Liveoin. The doecu- ment shows a cordial and hearty appreciation of the good feeling which dictated the address. THREATENED FENIAN RAID ON THE NEW BRUNSWICK BORDER.

We copy from the St. John Globe of the 12th instant’ the following notice of a meeting at Woodstock, N. B., called by Lieut. Governor Gordon, with the view of taking measures against an apprehended raid by Fenians on one or more of the border towns of New Brunswick, together with His Excellency’s speech to some of the people of Woodstock. Although, pro- bably, an imvasian on any thing like a large scale was not then contemplated, there is very little doubt that a robbery of some of the Banks, aud depredations on other property, were the designs of some desperate men connected with the Fenian Brotherhood, otherwise the British Minister at Washington—whose means of ac- quiring information are very extensive—would not have communicated with Governor Gordon in such a way as to send him and his principal Councillors by express haste to the froutier. The article and speech, as reported in the Globe, are as follows :—

“His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, as we learn from an extra of the Carleton Sentinel, met the mazistcates and prominent men of Woodstock, to the number of about fifty, at the Blanchard House, on Friday after- neon last, and addressed them in terms similar to those which he employed ut St. Stephen's, and which have now been widely published. Kesolutions were passed inviting the able-bodied young men to enroll themselves as a volunteer force against any emergency that may arise. Nothing further was made public than is already

in case any rascals, under the name of Fenians, should fade. take a raid upon the Province, our
