Two hundred and eleven parking violation tickets were placed on cars in Suminerslde during the past month and only two of these ignored the instructions to pay the 81.00 violation charge. War- rants were issued for a court ap- pearance which cost the two of- fenders an additional atom in costs. according to the monthly report issued by Chief of Police Peter . White. and submitted by Council or William Jenkins at the regular monthly meeting of the Summerslde Town Council on Monday evening. .

The report said-that during the month a case of forgery was in- vestigated and information laid and warrant issued. but the alleged of- fender had left' the province. He . was located in Vancouver within ' the course of a week. and was placed under arrest by the Van- couver pollce, but it was consid- ered too great an expense to have him returned from that point. This case had a direct bearing on ” a break and enter case In which 3 ' this very cheque was stolen.

CRIMINAL CHARGE , After the police report had been ; read. Councillor WF.. MacCaul- ' land said that the forgery chars: appeared to be a criminal charge and inquired as to whether the town had any responsibility in bringing the accused back for trial. Mayor Curric indicated that the town did not. and that this matter was the rcsimnsibilitv of the Attorney Gcneralls Depart- ment. -- The report of the Police De- , partinent stated that the parking .” ' situation in Summerside seems to E -be worsening. and suggested that parking meters be installed in the parking lot on the old Town Hall site. also on First Street from Summer to Central, which is at present a one-way street.

The report said that this street i h crowded at all times. with V parked cars which are mostly workers' cars at the local garage. or town business employees. Im- provements in the property across the street tron. the garage are be- ing made to take care of the garage owned cars, and because this property will occupy the space used by Meteor Taxi. risk! through to Water Street, a rec-' ommendation was made that no License to this taxi stand he grant- ed on Water Street.

A Parking-Question Looms ' Large In Police Record

The suggestion was made that because the town now owns fifteen feet or more In front of the Arm- ory that the strect be widened to take that in. and also that the same width be carried right through on the parking lot which would make i. more uniform and would add greatly to the appear- ance of Summer Street- The police report also suggested that the Lot known as the Alien lot, adjoining the town square, be made into a parking lot and that meters be also installed on this property.

The trustees of the United Church have informed the Police Department that it is their in- tention to make a parking SP-309 for cars behind the church upon completion of improvements now being made.

A recommendation was made that an application for a taxi li- cense to a resident on Fitzroy Street would not be granted be- cause the area is in a residential district.
