The softball championship of Prince Edward Island was decide’ last Sunday. An All-Star R..C.A.F. team defeated the Holy Redeeme team of Charlottetown in two games by scores of 9 to 3 and 10 to 9. The Charlottetown. boys didn't look in the same class as the air- men in the first three innings of the first game. but looked better and better as they went along. They gave the airiorce boys a real battle in the second game and tho

R. C. A. F team was hard- pressed till the final out. The main superiority of the airmen seems to lie in their

pitchers. Anrnstrong and Lamour- ioux. Those boys are far ahead of the softball pitchers we have been used to down here and the boys oi Srmmerside could do little with them all summer in the Summer- side softball league. The unassisicd triple play pulled oil by Burke of Charlottetown is something we rarely see either in baseball or softball. 1t is more likely to happen in softball, we think, because the man running iron first has a better chance oi getting down to second where he can he tagged than in baseball. Burke caught a lino drive, stepped on second to double up the runner trying to get back to that base. and tagged the runner who had come all the way from first. In one scnsc, it was not an unassisted triple play. The line drive struck the pitcher's outstretched hands probably making it easier for Burke to make the catch. A scorer might give the pitcher an asslsi hccause of this, but the play had ail the features of an unassisted triple

With the arrival this evening of approximately 150 labourer: re- cruited from different parts of New Brunswick and Cape Breton Island, there will be about 800 here altogether. Tonight‘: group will be the lelt that will be brought in and farmers who have orders in for men will be advised today by telephone when to come in to Summerside for them.

This year most of the available men have been taken and if tht demand had been any heavier it is doubtful lf they could have been supplied.-S.

Miss Beth Waugh was hostess to the United Church Guild on Wednesday evening. There were seven members, one new member, and one visitor in attendance. Mrs. Herbert Matthews presided and Mrs. Waugh led the opening worship. Next meeting ivill be the annual birthday meeting. Worship will be led by Mrs. Pike, Mrs. Ar- thur Wiikie will be in charge of program. The i-isiting committee reported two hospital and three home calls, Mrs. H.D. Corbett and Mrs, Leiurgey were appointed on the new visiting committee.

A shower in honor of Miss Gladys Hayes was arranged by Mrs. Loyd Wilkie and Mrs. John Clark at the Hayes‘ home on last Wednesday evening, Mrs. Cunning- ham played the wedding march, while Miss Hayes was escorted to the seat of honor by Miss Adele Dingwell. Mrs. Tugwell and Mrs. John Clark carried in the gifts. which were in a basket covered with pink and decanted with while gladioli. The gifts were passed to the bride-to-be by Mrs. Clark and the verses were read by Miss Margaret Hardy, and Miss Mary Barbour arranged gifts on the table.

After Miss Hayes had express- ed her thanks all joined in sing- ing ‘Tor She's A Jolly Good Fei- low". This was followed by a Sink-song with Mrs. Lawson at the piano. Delicious refreshments were served.

Greenwood, Maple, Ontario. is remarkable enough in itself but still more remarkable is the num- ber of Canadian and world cham- pionships held by members of her family, says a release from the lslolsioin-Friesian Association of Canada. These include two world records, one former world record. one record that is second highest in the world and iwo others that stand second in Canada.
