Cauironnia—The Sieamer New World, of New York, is reported to have made the shortest passace yet recorded, to the Pacific, though we have yet seen no account of the arriva! at San Francis- co.. She.isa boat ofariver model, de- signed to draw four and a half feet of water only.

She passed throuch the Straits of Ma- gellan in 30 hours, The passage from the Straits to Valparaiso was made in seven days, against a heavy head wind, and the voyage froin Rio Janeiro to Val- paraiso in 21 days. The following is an abstract from her lor:

Running time from New York-to Val- paraiso 44 days, (three days of which we man due north and took three days to re- tarn,) making 38 days actual running ume—distance 12,000 :niles.
