PRINCE EXAAKD ISLAND DIVISION

One in ten Canadian women will experience breast cancer in their lifetime. In Prince Edward Island alone, an estimated 75 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. However, more than 2/3 of these women will survive.

The Canadian Cancer Society is a national, community-based organization of volunteers, whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer, through fundraising, research, education and influence on public policy.

On Saturday, October 30th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, the PEI Division of the Canadian Cancer Society is sponsoring.a public forum to promote that "October is Breast Health Month" featuring three leading experts in the field.

Dr. Dagny Dryer, a Medical Oncologist from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, will discuss the various methods of treatment and the stages from prevention and early detection to recovery.

A breast cancer survivor, Dr. Robin Moore-Orr from Memorial University in Newfoundland, will discuss the effects that cancer may have in the areas of family, coping, sexuality, nutrition, and the patient’s role in decision making.

The latest Canadian research activities will highlight an address by Dr. Ron Buick, the Vice President of Research at the Ontario Cancer Institute. He will also speak about risk factors, genetic links, when results are expected, and what women can do to help themselves.

Following a short break, the audience will have an opportunity to directly ask these specialists any questions they have about this important woman’s issue of the 00’s, Breast Health.
