"Well Brenda. since you are on a visit I suppose you'd like a trip 1,. town too, wouldn't you?" asked Mrs. Page. "Of course. town will be nothing new to you. but we'll take a trip in today. I know Lau- ria doesn't want to come. so we'll just leave him home."

"I .want to go too. 1 want to go too." Laurie started to com- plain when he noticed the twinkle In his mother's eyes. "Oh. you were just teasing me. weren't you? Come on. Brenda, let's go and get dressed up right now." With that he made a race for the stairs with Brenda at his heels.

Before long they were back. both all dressed up. with shining faces and hair as smooth as could be. Mrs. Page was ready too so they started off.

"When they got into town, Brenda could scarcely wait to get into the stores. "I have fifty cents to spend," she said. "I want to buy something."

"Yes. you'd better spend it fast before it burns a hole in your pocket." teased Mrs. Page. "But don't buy everything in the store."

"I couldn't with only fifty cents." laughed Brenda as they entered the first one.

"I'm hungry, I want something to eat," said Laurie.

"There's nothing but candy here. and you aren't allowed to eat that

so close to meal time," replied his mother. "You'll just have to wait."

"Here. Laurie. are some potato chips for you. ' think your Morn- my will let you have then, for they won't make your teeth decay." said Brenda as she passed him one of the silver and blue bags.

"Now let me see. Brenda. I think pou need a purse to hold all your money. You pick out one that you like and I'll buy it," suggested Mrs. Page.

Brenda looked them all over. "I think this red one would match my skirts."

"Fine. I'll pay for it. Now let's go up to the next floor. I want to buy some other things."

"I didn't spend my money yet." said Brenda. "Could I look for something for myself?"

"Certainly." answered Mrs. Page. "But we'll go to another store. You may see something there that you would like."

Along the street they went and into a store with many counters filled with all different kinds of things. Laurie and Brenda made straight for a counter holding toys. Brenda looked them over. There was' a cute doll, but it was 98c. She saw a toy baking set, but thought it wouldn't be much good.

''I don't know what to buy." she sighed "I'd like a coloring book and crayons, and I like these toy watches. but I haven't enough money for both."

"Just pick out the coloring book you like best. and I'll pay for it. then you can buy the watch," whispered Mrs. Page in her ear. With a pleased smile Brenda look- ed the books over very carefully until she had found one to her like ing. As the clerk wrapped it up, she chose the watch then said. "I'll take some balloons home for Lynne."

Laurie felt that he was being left out. but when his turn came to " something. he had his mind made up. ''I need a small red shovel. and I'd like a watering can for my garden." he said.

Mrs. Page laughed. "I can't see the need of a watering can after all this rain. but we may have a dry spell later on. Very well. you may have it. Now we must finish my shopping."

As the children left the store. Brenda looked in her purse. and said. "I still have money left, I have a nickel and six pennies. I didn't spend it all."
