Y’S MEN'S CLUB-The Charlotte- town Y's Men's weekly ‘meetings, which were adjourned for the sum- mer months. resumed last night with the President; of the Club, A. M. Douglas in the chair. President Dvllslas opened the meeting by wel- coming the attending Y's Men back again. He then called upon Mr. Luck, the new secretary of the Y. M. C. A. for a. few introductory re- marks. Mr. Luck responded with an account of his transfer to Charlotte- town and the welcome he has rc- ceived since coming. He also cx- tended the greetings of the Toronto Y's Men's Club to the Charlottetown Club, and then paid a fine tribute to his predecessor of the Charlotte- town Y. Past President Rcuel Lc- Page called upon, gave a. very in- teresting talk on his recent trip to St. Paul, Minn., remarking on the conditions of roads travelled over in the States and the wonderful system of marking same. Mr. LePage trav- elled in all, four thousand and ninety-six miles and spoke highly of the treatment given to tourists en- route.

The St. Chrysostome Girls’ Sewing Club, organized last December un- der the auspices of the Women's Institute, held a very successful Achievement Day at St. Chrysos- tome on Monday afternoon, Sep- tember 10th. The work was of an exceptionally high quality and all of the articles were very neatly made. Miss MacMillan and Miss Haszard of the Women's Institute Branch were present and judged the work. In the class for girls under thirteen (l3) years of age, three dresses made by girls of eleven (11) years of age were cut- standing and deserving of special mention. The prize winners in this class were as follows: (1) Zelme. Arsenault, (2) Olive Arscnault, (3) Anna Gallant. In the class for girls over thirteen (18) years of age the competition was keen and the work excellent. The prize winners in this class were as follows: (1) Laurette Arsenault, Sophie Arsenault (equal), (2) Philomena Arsennult, (B) Margaret Arsenault. An inter- esting feature of the program was a dress parade with each girl wear- ing the dress she had made. Spe- cial credit is due Mrs. Ben Gallant, club, leader, who so efficiently coached the girls during the club yea/r. At the close of the meeting Miss MecMlllan presented Achieve- ment Certificates to the girls who had successfully completed the years work.

The County Court room was crowded yesterday morning as Earl Lund, Maurice Gormley and George Kerwin faced His Honor Judge Duffy on a. charge of robbery. Lund and Gormley were first called. The Clerk of the Court reed the charge that of robbing (Fgtrude and Blanche MacNeill of approximately $200 on the 25th day of August, concluding with the words "are you Ellllty or not gilllty." Both prisoners replied “gui1iy.\'

Kerwin was then called and charged with robbing Gertrude and Blanche MacNclll of approximately $200 on August 25, with violence to the licrsoli: when asked whether guilty or not guilty he replied "guilty."

The court then adjourned until today at 11 a. m. when the three will be sentenced.

The Late Mrs. Austin Taylor 0f Norobora

There passed away in the Prince County Hospital yesterday, Mrs. Austin Taylor of Norboro. Mrs. Taylor had not been well for some time and was brought to thehos- pital early in the week 1n a serious condition, but in spite of the best of care and nursing, she did not re- ODVGI‘.

Mrs. Taylor was born in Clare- mont, New Hampshire, U. S. A., and was 69 years of age. She was married twice. Her first husband was Thomas Taylor of Prince Ed- ward Islalld. After living in the United States for a few years they came to reside in Granville. Of this marriage there were two sons, Wm. W. Taylor of New Arman, and James Raymond, who died in Man- chester, N. I-L, some years ago; and five daughters, namely: Mrs. Ecl- ward Taylor and Mrs. wm. R. Tay- lor of Stcttler, Alta., Mrs. Charles Lathrop, lhttsfield: Miss Fanny Taylor, Manchester, N. H., and Mrs. Merton Bagnall 0f Hunter River.

After the death of her first hus- band, Mrs. Taylor married Austin Taylor of Norboro, who survives her. Of this marriage there is one son, Earle. at home. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved family.

The funeral is taking place on Saturday afternoon with a short service at 1.30 at the home follow- cd by a. service at two o'clock in the United Church at Granville.

FLOWERS EARLIER MADE- GREAT SHOW

VANCOUVER, Sept. ail-Larger and of better quality than any of the previous 26 shows, the flower section at the Exhibition was re- garded by many enthusiasts as one answer to the question "Why Vancouver such a. delightful pleoe in which to live?"

It has been a fairly good season in Vancouver {or flowers-and three to four weeks earlier than usual. As usual, dahlies have done excep- tionally well, this flower probably growing better in this district than any other flower.

One peculiarity of a peculiar yea: in this province is the second blooming of the dogwood trees, the handsome while blossom appearing in some instances amid clusters of scarlet berries.

The National Parks Service of the Department of the Interior, Ottawa, has just issued the Regu1u"-ns re- garding Migratory Birds for the cur. rent year.

A summary of the regulations as they apply to Prince Edward 1s- land follows:

Ducks, geese, brant, coots and rails; September l-December l4.

Woodcock, Wilson's or Jacksnipe: September 15—November 30.

There is a closed season through- out the year on Wood Ducks, Swans, Cranes, Curlew, Willets, Godwits, Upland Plover, Black-bellied and Golden Plover, Greater and Lesser Yellow-legs, Avocets, Dowitchers, Knots, Oyster-catchers, Phalaropes, Stilts, Surf-birds, Turnstones and all the shore birds not provided with an open season in above schedule.

There is a closed season through- out, the year on the following non- galne birds:

Auks, Anklets, Bitterns, Fulmars, Gannets, Grebes, Guillemots, Gulls, Herons, Jaegers, Loons, Murres, Pet- rcls, Puifins, Shealwaters and Terns: and there is a. closed 268.5011 throughout the year on the follow- ing insectivorous birds-diobollnks, Hummingbirds, Kinglets, Martins, Mcadowlarks, Nighthawks, or Bull- bats, Nuthatches, Orioles, Robins, Shrikes, Swallows, Swifts, Tanagers, Tltmice, Thrushes, Vireos, Warblers, Wrlxwings, Whip-poor-wllls Wood- pcckcrs, and Wrens, and Q other perchlng birds which feed entirely or chiefly on insects,

No person shall kill, hunt, cap- ture, injure, take or molest any mi- gratory game birds dlkhg the clos- ed season; and no person shall, sell, expose for sale, offer for sale, buy, trade or traffic in any migratory game bird at any time.

The taking of the nests or eggs of migratory game, migratory insec- tivorous and migratory non-game birds is prohibited.

The killing, hunting, capturing taking or molesting of migratory ilisectivorous and migratory non- game birds, their nests or eggs is prohibited.

The possession of migratory game birds killed during the open season is allowed in Prince Edward Island until January 31 following open sea- son.

Ducks, 10; Geese, 5; Brant, B; Rails, Coots and Galllnules 25 in the aggregate; Wilson's or Jack- snipe, 25; Woodcock, B: and not more than 125 Woodcock in one ‘season.

The use of automatic (autoloed- lng), swivel, cw: machine guns, or battery, or any gun larger than number l0 gauge is prohibited, and the use of any aeroplane, power- boat, sail-boat, wounded live birds as decoys, night light, and shooting from any horse-drawn or motor ve- hicle is forbidden.

The shooting of migratory game birds earlier than one hour before simrlsc or later than one hour after sunset is prohibited.

The penalty for violation of the migratory bird laws is a fine of not more than Three Hundred Dollars and not less than Ten Dollars, or imprisonment for a, term not ex- ceeding six months, or both fine and imprisonment.

NEW YORK, Sept. Zl-New York gives its beggars $3,000,000 a year, it is estimated. Of this sum, twi thirds goes to the professionals who it is believed, average $8 a day each. Tile other third goes to the thousands of transients who gather dimes along the streets and aven- ues, then move on.

New York has ll. beggars bureau. The bureau has a "who's wiho am- ong beggars" that tom many fan- tastic storlcs. It compiles statistics that reveal astounding facts.

For example, one third of the city's beggars are found to be al- coholic. One out of 20 is reported to be a drug addict. Practically all of them are citizens of the United States. Three-fifths of them are be- tween 30 and 60 years oldl. Most of thcm have police records. One has been arrested 57 times.

One of the stories on the bureau's chronicle of thwarted lives con- cerns a trembling old man who tot- tcrcd in one day, seeking aid. His clothing ivcrc in rags. Doctors gave him their attention-and found $12,000 sewed into the filthy gar- ments that hardly covered him.

RECALLS OLD WEST NEARLY A CENTURY

Mrs. Brown has almost reached the century mark. lives at Twin Butte but makes her annual visit to Waterton where she spent 40 years of her life, to scc hcr husband's grave.
