Russia and Port Lazareff,

A recent cable dentate stated that China had resolved to send troops to the neighburhood of Port Lazareff as a precau- tionary measure against Russia’s rumoured design of seizing that place. The idea of the latter power is said to be to counterbal- ance the English occupation of Port |

In the quarries, in spite of the arduous nature of the labors, 50 cents was the ordinary pay. The last strike was that of some young girls who protested against the discharge of a married woman because she had not returned to the factory six days after her confinement. The truck system also prevailed throughout Belgium and the Government inquiry went to prove that the employers sometimes bought back the flour they gave out as wages to their men. As the representative of the Bel- gian workmen he spoke in the name of 126,000 men and 170 societies. A New Discovery in Glass.

Berlin papers copy from the Germania the account of an important discovery in glass manufacture made by Friedrich Siemens, of Dresden. He has succeeded in casting glass in the same way as metal is cast and © staining an article corresponding to cast metal. This cast glass is hard, not dearer in production then cast iron, and has the advantage of transparency, S° ~~ all flaws can be detected before it is ap- plied to practical use. Riel Rebellion Relies, {

Louis Riel’s flag is now floating in Water jbury. Careless Drugging.
