Lost Her Ancnoorn—The schooner Leonora came into Charlottetown this afiernoon with her flag flying at half-mast, lending people to believe that she had lost some one oversboard. But upon enquiry it was learned that the schooner bad lost her anebor off Miscou during the gale on Wednesday night, and the half-mast signal was intended to indicate that a tug- boat was wanted.

the old lamps that were necessary to light the ‘quare before the gas was placed there. The old tin has

Orr Tue Track.—There was great ex- citement at Georgetown this forenoon upon the arrival of the train frem Char-~ lottetown. Instead of stopping at the station, as usual, the train kept on and were it not for the Town Hall on the opposite side of the street there is no Knowing ~here it would bave brought up. The passengers were{all on board, but it is not said that they appreciated the extra ride. Fortunately no one was hurt. The Town Hall wos damaged tothe extent of $600 or $800.

A Pueasaxt Ovrinc.— The summer cottage of Mr. Jaines Paton, a; Keppock, last evening contained an exceedingly bappy company, the occasion being the annual outing of the employes of the well- known firm of which Mr. Patoe is the popu lar head. It was first intended to have the outing on Wednesday, and a steam-

| boat excursion was to bave been a promin- j ent feature.

But the weather was not propitious on that day, and a postponement was made until yerterdsy. Tbe water yesterday was too rough fora sai! on the harbor, and <this feature had to give place to a carriage trip. The parity left the city by the three o’clock boat, the large staff of employes being augmented by several ladies and gentlemen whom Mr. Paton had very kindly asked to partici- pate. The drive toKeppoch was a plea- sant one, On arrival,the party were re ceived by Mra. Paton, Mrs. Brown and Mise Tillie Brown. After strolling about the picturesque shore aad other portions of thie delightful spot, the party sat down to asumptuous supper, at the conclusion of which dancing and eongs and recitations were enjoyed, a number of Mr. Paton’s neighbors at Keppock participating. About midnight the merry party ‘eparated, after singing Auld Lang Syne aod cheering Mr. Paton, whose whole-souled Scottish bospi- tality will Jong be remembered. The steamer Elfin, which had been specially cogaged for the occasion, conveyed the party to Charlottetown.

Oa Thureddy next Warren Guy, Minois, Montrose, Provider and others will trot as the Charlottetown Driving Park in the free for all. All the horses are looking for first place.

about six o’clock. The Aberdeen had a load of railway sleepers fram Glace Bay The crew were saved. The veagel is a tots] wreck. Gad it not been for the efforts of the fishermen of the place the crew would bave been lost.

A J McKean, owned by the Portland Pack~ ing Company, is ashore at Kildare Cap-e, about three miles from Tignish. She is on a rock bottom, aad will likely be a total wreck, The crew were with great difli- culty takenjoff,—after several unsuccess- ful attempts, Caprain hand at life-saving, with difficuity afier risking the lives of himself and his hercic companions, succeeded in catching a line from the schooner, thereby getting the crew from their perilous position. As thie is Captain McGrath’s third experience in life-saving at the risk of his life, we hold him more entitled to recognition thao mapy @ man remembered in a practica! Way.

Messrs Myrick & Co had a barn contain ing 25 tous of hay barned by lightning on Wednesday morning.

Captain Michael Lynch, of Tignish, and his schooner are missing, bat it is hoped they have made some harbor.

A boat with four occupants, two men and two boys, which had drifted from the Caraquet fishing grounds during the storm of Wednesday night was lost. Two of the bodies were yesterday washed ‘ashore at Kildare Capes. One of the men was mar- ried, and leaves a wife and three children.

Crops are almost completely destroyed and fences are leveled everywhere,

Another Saxon-Cheren Concert.

Arrangements have been made with Mr. Avon Saxon and his company to cance! some of their other dates and thereby give the the people of Charlottetown an oppor- tunity of hearing him in his best form and in an entirely new and interesting programme. This con- cert will take place in the Opera House on Monday evening next, September 11th. Mr. and Mrs. Saxon will have the assist- «nce of Mrs. E. Kearney, piaviet aod Mr. Vinnicombe’s orchestra, when a pro- gramme of vocal selections with orchest- ral accompaniment, together with songs, duets, trios, and selections by the orchestra will complete a programme of such excel - lence as has not been heard previously in Charlottetown. Tickets will be on sale at the usual placestomorrow morti.g. Book early, as there is sure fo be a rush fir seats.

—Though Mr. Saxon was too hoarse last evening to sing at his best or render the more difficult numbers on the pro- gramme, the audience at the Opera house heard him, as well as his wife, with the highest satisfaction, and rewarded both with generous applause. It is pleasing to learn that the music lovers of Charlotte- town will have another opportunity of hearing and enjoying the reedition of the talented pair.
