Considering that the writer surveys the ground from an impartial altitude, the force of the foregoing is worth a score of party editorials. But this even mors com- plimentary :—

_ Regarding the Reform Party, Mr. Nor- ris says :-—

‘*]t has been under the oontrol of a man during the last twenty years, who was sn- tirely out of the current of Canadian opin- ion and Canadian life * * * George Brown might have said, ‘I am the Reform Party’ * * * Jt is an evil thing fora party to have as its leader a foreigner. The Reform Party has such a leader, and hitherto Mr. Blake has not shown that strength of character so necessary in a leader.”

And now, we learn at last, of what the Party of Reform consists. It is hybrid :--

‘The Reform Party is made up of two classes—-fossilized Tories and men of Am- erican, proclivities.”’

Perhaps our Reform friends may receive a valuable hint from the following, and may settle themselves quietly in their pres- ent cool shades for sonie time to come :—

‘* Now, what is the prespect for the suc cess of the Liberal party et the next elec- tions? It is at present very doubtful. The people will not tolerate disturbing either the National Policy er the Syndicate con- tract. These things must be left alone.”

Practice often but not toomuch at a time, and practice intelligently. Prac- tice playing the ball, and not merely slog- ging at it. Be as careful at the wickets when the net is behind you as you would be during a match.

An Answer to the ‘ Patriot's” Citizen.

To the Editor of the Examiner.

*Srr,—The Patriot of yesterday contains a brutal and uncalled for attack on several members of our City Cotineil, “signed ** Citizen.” Nodoubht the man, if I may call him so, who wrote that article is one of the disappointed ones, or, in othe? words, the public have calculated the man at his true worth. The individual 1 very much incensed that the City Council have not asked his opivions—that they have not invited him to their consultatioss. If bis knowledge of civic government is on a par with his ignorance, he would be a valuable acquisition certainly. As special adviser, curiosity, impudence and seandalizing seem to be his special stock in trade. He must own a barrack somewhere in the city, for which he has escaped taxation for some years back, and now when called upon te pay his rightful share he writhes and groans, and howls to think that justice will be now administered to him. The citizens know who compose the City Council, and have confidence in them, notwithstanding the dastardly attempt of Citizen to belittle them. JI question very much if Citizen’s debt was paid if he has as much interest in the city as some of the men whom he tries to belittle. Who dares to come out over his own signature and say that Councillors Murphy, McLean, Chappelle and Konghan

the taxes we have paid for years past, and who has wasted the money? Has it not been preperty-holders? Who have
