MOSCOW. Jan. 18 -(AP) - Pravde. disclosed today the arrest of a key Metals Ministry consult- ant for stealing a secret document and heaped abuse on Ministry oi-l flcials for not being on guard.

At the same time the Moscow radio accused the United States of sending "whole armies of spies" abroad to work against the Soviet Union and its Communist iieigh- bors.

Pravda identified the consultant as I. Korshun. whose Job was to write reports and consult on spec- ific questions.

For days the Soviet DICE and radio have been criticizing Govern- ment officials and security organs for lack of vigilance against spies and sabotage. The greatest. uproar exploded last. week with announce- ment oi the arrest of nine Soviet

doctors, most of them Jews, ac- cused of plotting to kill off top Russian political and military fig- ures through improper treatment.

In a scorching blast at gullible officials. Pravda said:

"In order to liquidate sabotage, it is necessary to put an end to gullibllity in our ranks and create an atmosphere of high political vigilance."

In warning against the "whole armies" of American spies, Moscow radio said:

"The Soviet people must put an end at least to the manifestation of political slockness which facilit- ates activities of U. S. imperialist agents in our country."

It acknowledged that "among us there still remain remnants of bourgeois ideology. personal prop- erty psychology and persons hold- ing bourgeois views. These people are the hidden enemies of the Sov- iet people."

OILBEETON. Pa.. Jan. is -- (AP) -A five-year-old girl fell 22 feet into an ll-inch-wide strip-mining test hole Saturday and was res- cued two hours later by workers using long steel bars and ropes.

The screaming. hysterical child was Laura Mae I-leisec. She was playing with friends on the floor of the anthracite stripping pit. two miles northeast of Gilberton when she fell in the hole.

Rescue workers rushed to the scene, and tried to drop a rope to the girl. But she was too hysterical to grasp it with her bands, which were wedged over her head as she lay 10 feet from the bottom of the boring.

LONDON, Jan. 18 - (Reuters)- Mdscow may be setting the stage for the death of Stalin and the subsequent launching of a new mass purge, experts on Soviet af- fairs here believe.

They considcr the charges against Moscow doctors accused of murdering high state leaders as act 11 of a drama which opened last October with the 19th Congress of the Soviet Commun- ist Party.

The experts say the highest Sov- iet chiefs have discussed how to retain their grip on the country once Stalin now '13, dies.

While acknowledging the diff- iculty of predicting the future course of events in Russia, the experts figure that the ”medical murder" charges (are designed to pave the way or an ultimate charge-that doctors shortened the life of Stalin himself.

One of those currently accused, Prof. P. I. Yegorov, was formerly chief of the medical administra- tion of the Kremlin and presum- ably has treated Stalin.

Act III will open with the death of Stalin. It may already be known that Stalin has a limited ,time in which to live.

OTTAWA. Jan. in Canadian Teachers” announced today it permanent education fice with Dr. J. D. Ayers, 35, of Toronto as research director.

Dr. Ayers. at present working for the Defence Research Board in Toronto. will begin his new job. ll- bout the end of March.

The announcement by the 65.- 000-member CTP said it hopes the new office will make "a worthy contribution to the improvement of education.”

PITTSBURGH. Jan. 18 itAPi- Hundreds of I snarling. fighting prisoners rloted at Western State Penitentiary tonight. setting fire to the prison after seizing several guards as hostages.

Every available policeman in Pittsburgh rushed to the scene. They were heavily armed with riot- guns, rifles, revolvers and tear-gas wcapons.

First reports indicated prisoners escaped.

ist leaders. Mullah Ayatullali Seyed Kashani and Premier Mohammed Mossadegh, parted

company today in what may be a fateful split inviting Communist intrigues.

In a letter to Parliament. Kash- ani threw the weight of his pow- erful religious leadership against the bill extending Mossadegh's dictatorial powers for a full year.

Frantic efforts were being made behind the scenes by Nationalist followers to patch tip the split. But

Kashani's edict threw the deput- ies into confusion. They already had debated the measure at, two sittings and passed it on the first reading. They also had consented to give the bill a "double urgent" status. permitting it to be passed on two readings instead of three. Last August they gave Mossadcgh pow- er to govern most affairs of the nation by decree for six months. These powers expire Feb. 9.

was 62. A member of the Senate since 1928. Senator Lacasse suffered it

heart attack last Dec. 18 and had been in hospital since.

He had practised medicine in Tecumseh since wit and was elected mayor of that Western Ontario town in I027 and '20. He was summoned to the' Senate late in 1928.
