—An explanation of the changed atti. tude of the Filipinos towards the United States has been given. A despatch from Manila to The Record, of Ciiicago says :

“I: is learned from Filipino prisoners that the rage of the natives has been aroused against the Americars by a system- atic dissemination of grotesque stories about the treatment accorded the Indians in the United States. It has been repre- sented that fiendish cruelty has marked all the dealings of the Americans with the red men of their own country, and that afixed policy of this :sort exists among them and wil] be applied to their dealings with the natives of the Philippines.”

The Filipinves feared that they would be treated as the Indians of the plaing; sothry attacked the Americans when they thought they had a chance of escape from the Indian’s fate. But they made almistake; aud now wish they hadn’t.

crops grown in Canada by an annual dis~ tribut'on from the Experimental Farm at Ovtawa, of samples of seed of the best and most promising sorts. These varieties have been first tested at tne Ex, erimental Farms and only those which have proven to be the very best have been choaeu for this distri- bution. The samples sent out have con- tained three pounds eacb, and every pres caution has been taken to have the seed in every initance thuroughly clean aod true to name, and the packages have been sent free, through the mau. Thoeve who have re celved such sampies and grown them with bave usually had at the end ofthe second year enough seed to sow a large area, and in this manner careful farmers allover the Domirion have been gradually replacing any inferior and less productive sorts which they have beea growing in the past with superior yarieltles geeater vigor,
