It was true. Now that Lightloot had lost his antlers. the crown he was so proud of. all his pride had fallen with them. There was nothing to be ashamed 0!. Yet he had a reel- ing of shame. 01 course he no longer looked -handsome. Perhaps that is one rcason why he tell ashamed. although he shouldn't have. Perhaps. 'too. his feeling of shame was because he realized how he had boasted, and how he had tried to show otf. Now there was no pride at all, and he had no desire to show off. He was meek. No one in all the Green Forest was more meek than was Li-gh-tfoot as he tagged along be- hind Mrs. Lightioot and the twins. He was the tail of the lam- ily. instead of the head of the family now. And everyone who saw him knew it, and he knew they knew il.
