Sir:—I feel it is wise to bring to the attention of our potato and turnip producers in this Province, a few facts tn relation to produc- tion and marketing during the present season, Information com- piled in the Department of Agrl- culture would indicate a. very dras- tic reduction in production in these tvwo crops. The total acreage planted to potatoes in the year 1941, as compared with 1940 shows a. decrease of between six and sev- cn thousand acres. In certified seed the acreage passing inspec- tion in 1940 all varieties, was l6.- 222 acres. in 1941 only 11,230 urea of ell varieties passed, indicating a reduction of approximately five thousand acres 1n certified seed. The production of potatoes per acre will be scarcely seventy per cent of the production in 1940, and when the harvesting 1s completed this figure may be lowered. In fact it 1a evident from all informa- tion available that the quantity of the potatoes for export will be very little more than fifty per
