SOURIS —- J. 1" r a n k Sterns. 78. one of Souris' best known cit- izens, died recently in the Souris Hospital where he had been a patient for several months.

He was educated at Prince or Wales College and followed a mercantile'career. first with his father and later (1921-1948) on his own in the Sterns B lo c k. Souris.

Community interests in his younger years included member- ship in the Souris citizen's band (organized in 1905) and a prom- inent part in the artillery militia of Eastern Kings. marksman. Mr. Sterns was a member of the Canadian Bisley team in 1913. He went overseas in 1915 as lieutenant in the Second Can- adian Siege Battery. served as adjutant. was mentioned in des- patches. was awarded the Mill-

'Well Known Souris Resident,= J. Frank Sterns Laid To Rest

St. James' Presbyterian Church. now the United Church, Mr. Storms served for nearly so years: for 26 of these he was also an elder of the church. Survivors include his si sters. Adele. Mrs. R.C. McLe a n of Souris; Miss Hazel L. Stearns of Charlottetown; lrene. Mrs. A1- fred Dunlap at home; Winnit’red. Mrs. James Gray at Ottawa. and five nieces and one nephew. The funeral which took place Sunday afternoon from St. Jam- es' United Church was conduct- ed by Rev. D.E. Adams. Honorary pallbearers w e r a members of the combined ses- sions of St. James’ and B ay Fortune United Churches. Active pallbearers were R. J. MacKenzie, Harvey Poole. M.J. McQuaid, Keith MacKe n zie. Percy Clinton and Ray Leard. Interment was in the family plot of Souris West cemetery.
