The writers do not attempt to

answer many questions which sCl6llCB must ask, nor to provide I mnspectus of ancient world his- Tory. Their primary aim is spirit- ual: and although the Bible is nghtly thought of as a vehicle of d.l.'ln8 revelation. it is also a hu- man book. a record of man's grow- mg realization and understanding 4 his own nature. and of the na- rc of God. The imperfection of the human niedlllm, and the inadequacy of man's earlier conceptions. do not obscure the main point and pur- pose U the whole, which isto give an answer to the fundamental questions: "What is man? What dries God require of him, and how (an he find the power which will enable him to meet this demand- . demand to which he must in ..-one way respond?"

And while none would claim that r.PI'Y part of the book is of equal

ture. is essentially a book of hope; and through what they have read therein Christians have always believed that life has a. meaning and a purpose.

What the book has done for hu- man life through the ages is be- yond all computation. Its very words and phrases have entered into the structure of the common speech of the western world. and many to-day use its words and even accept its standards of con- duct with little or no -realization of their source.

The book is ethical through and through. It does not indeed pro- vide a legalistic system. a code of behaviour. which. as man's com- mon llfe becomes more complex and ethical problems more intract- able. would need constant revision: but it does set before men a stan- dard. a point of reference. an ul- timate sanction, which offers him the guidance he- needs as he is faced by the, moral choices which none can escape. It's message and its view of the purpose of life are

To Springfield

On Thursday, February 5th, resi- dents of Springfield and friends from neighboring disirlcis met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Campbell, Springfield. Lot 6'7. to give them a welcome to the com- munity in which they had chosen to make their new home. When all had gathered, Mr. Alex MacDonald. as chairman. af- ter a few opening remarks, called on Mrs. John I-lazen who read an appropriate address. Mr. Herbert Profltt presented the honoured couple with a purse. compliment- ary, remarks were made by Messrs. Nelson Maiheson, Allison Mayne, Mnj. R. E. Howard. and others.

Mr. Campbell, on behalf of his wife and little son, Boyce. thank- ed the people for their kindness and generosity, and extended a welcome to all. All joined in singing ”F'or They Are Jolly Good Fellows." The re- mainder nf the evening was spent in dancing. Refreshments were served by the ladies.

Meeting Of Cerebral Palsy Group

The Cerebral Palsy Parents Group met at the Y. M. C. A. on Tuesday. March 10th.

A large number of parents of such handicapped children were present for the meeting. presided over by the presidnt, Mrs. Dan Farquharson. and were much en- couraged by the talk of the guest speaker. Mrs. Clifford Birt who was a speech and occupational teacher in Holland. She told about the work being done in Holland for these children.

In the course of her talk she demonstrated a number of articles which could be employed and .me- thods used io interest the child Many of these articles she made herself and told the parents they could be made at home and in this way assist them. .Bhe.strcssed the fact that the physically handicap- ped children can be educated and that some of the most severely handicapped have become lawyers, docfors, teachers, etc., but said that "a sound mind behind a. crippled child will also become crippled unless adequate channels for ex-
