NEW YORK, Aug. 30-A slight rift in Europe's war clouds encour- aged the stock market a bit to- day and the wilting leaders of Monday got back fractions to around 2 uoiritsrof their losses.

The recovery move was lacking in vigor. however. with volume about one half that of the revi- ous session when prices su fered the sharpest break since last March.
