Jonquils, narcissus, tulips and hyacinths of all descriptions, and perfect in form and flower, make a visit to the room seem like a glimpse of fairyland. He held that the estimates brought down made a very satisfactory showing. Hon. Mr. Fos- ter reviewed the items «as shown in the printed estimates. Among the increases was a heavy amount for the 1. C. R., which was accounted for by the proposed purchase of new rolling stock, and he thought the increased receipts would make up for it. As to the commerce of the country, the prosperity of the past year had been more than the average. The manufacturing in- dustries were in a healthy state, having worked off their large surplus stocks. There was a prospect of an advance in wages by the large manufactories. ‘The shipping in- terest would be giad to hear that there was a prospect of increase in freights. Though our Atlantic service had been good in the past, it was not as good as might be, and the Government was considering steps to make it more nearly equal to the service of New York. The proper Canadian policy was that we should look first to the coan- try’s development and live at peace with
