These vessels have a carrying capacity of about 28,000 bushels, but no difficulty will be experienced in obtaining their cargoes, as Cardigan Bridge is one of the principal ship- ping ports in King’s County. Last Nicur's Racty.—The Scott Act nizet- ing in the Lyceum last evening was largely attended. Mayor Haviland presided. The speakers were Hou. Mr. Bentley, Re v. Messrs. Hogg and Crisp, of Moncton, Rev. Mr. Cahill,of Summerside, Rev, Messrs. Carruthers and Whitman of Charlottetown, and the Chairman. The addresses were chiefly on the evils of the liquor traffic, and invariably closed with reference to the importance of the issue, and the duty of the hour. The proceedings were opened and closed with prayer.

TRUSTED AND Busret.-~A covered wagen, drawn by 4 pair of somewhat weary looking horses, crossed the ferry to Windsor, Ont., one day last week. Upon the side was a rudély ‘painted legend: ‘‘In Dakota’ we trusted; in Dakota we busted.” Within were John Ainslie, an intelligent farmer, his wife and six children, who have been drawn from Douglas county, Dakota, a distance of over 1,000 miles, «x soute for Garfield, Essex county, Ontario, their former home. In spite of their long journey, all looked ‘clean, comfortable, and in good health

A Darixe Rospzry.—The daring robbery of about $500, part of money received for a cargo of potatoes from Capt. Keeping, of the schooner Julia Ward, lying at Mill Cove, is reported from Dartmouth. It is. supposed that on Monday night while the captain slept the robber by some means obtained entrance to the eabin of the vessel, and by the use of a drug renlde ed the sleeper insensible until afte: the deed had been committed. A man named Publicover was arrested yesterday on suspicion, but was dis ‘harged for lack of suffi- ecient evidence. ‘Tne robber is still at large.— Hx. Herald

Tue Worst ror Foxry Yerars.—A_ re cent despatch from Portland, Me., says: “ Fishermen say that this has been the poor- est season for 40 years for the Portland mack- erel fleet, less than 10,000 barrels having been packed, and not more than a dozen of the fleet of 60 vessels have id their bills, and but four or five have made any profit. The schr. Lizzie Maud has stocked nearly $13,000. The steamer Novelty has also made a profit. The schr. Ethel, having combined codfishing with mackereling, has stocked the most money of any fisherman out of the port. Several ves- sels are fitting for winter fishing.”

Hymeneat.—Mr. Isaac Carter (of (ieorge Carter & Co.) and Miss Isabella Cantley, were united in marriage at the residence of Mrs. Sinclair, Fitzroy Street, last evening. Mr. A. E, Crosby acted as groomsman and Miss Annie Carter as bridesmaid. The nuptial knot was tied by Rev. J. M. McLeod. _A similar ceremony was performed last evening about the same hour at the residence of Mr, W. H. Batt, Water Street, when Mr. Jeffer- son D. Gardiner and Miss Jane Batt were bound in hymen’s fetters by Rev. 8S. Weston- Jones. Miss Maud Batt was tke bridesmaid and Mr. R. Macdonald the groomsman. To all the high-contracting parties we extend eur congratulations.

Tue Tcorr.—The fastest oe trotter yet produced is the filly called Norlaine, which placed the mark at 2.314 at Sau Francisco on the 12th inst. She was got by Norval, a son of Electioneer, Her dam Elaine, made a record of 2.28 as a three-year- old. She is by Messenger Duroc, out of Green Mountain Maid. The dam of Norval was Norma, which has a record of 2.334,and was also the dam of Lucy Cuyler, which was driven a mile to road wagon by Robert Bonner in 2.154 .-.. Wildflower, by Electioneer, fastest two- year-old record, 2.21; Sable Wilkes by Guy Wilkes, fastest three-year-old record, 2.18; Manzanita by Electioneer, fastest four-year- old record, 2.19—were all bred in California.

Three times the hearing of the cases was laid over, pending the decision of the Privy Coun- cil in a Quebec case, Judgment having been rendered in favor of the Quebec corporation, the Halifax cases were withdrawn. d-deo COUNTERFEITERS CapTuRRED.—For several weeks past Sarnia, Ont., has been flooded with counterfeit dollars and cents. No clue was obtained as to the guilty parties until Monday last when the Sheriff and his deputies drove to the residence of a man named John Mack and searched his house, where they found plaster paris moulds, one hundred bogus dollars,some coin partly finished and other paraphernalia. Mack and wife were arrested, and a search of the house of T. W. Ernest, about a mile <dis- tant, was made, when asimilar discovery was made. B., on the 13th inst., was a native of P. E. Is- land. At the time of hie death Mr. McLellan was in his GS8th year. The Antigonish Casket gays: ‘* When quite a young man, some forty years ago, he built the Churches of Ponquette and Croqnish in this diocese. Afterwards he went,to the United States,where he worked for many years, and while there took instruc- tions under Keily, the celebrated American Archi’ ‘ct. Then he returned toe his native Island, where fdr fifteen years without inter- mission he worked for Bishop McIntyre, dur- ing which time he built or fivished some of the finest churches in the diocese of Charlotte- town. Among others the churches of Lot 11 and St. Andrew's were built by Mr. McLellan; 80, too, were St. Joseph’s Convent, Oharlotte- town, and many other buildings of the same kind in different parts of the Island.
