While most students were relaxing during Christmas holidays the mens basket- ball team journeyed to Toronto where they parti- cipated in the annual Ryerson Tournament.
The highly competitive tournament was held Decem- ber 28, 29 and 30.
The Panthers would have the opportuntiy to play some of the top ranked teams in 'the country. The Victoria Vikings were on_a 64 game winning streak and they were expected to win the tourna-
ment.
The U.P.E.l. Panthers re- mained posied and were not intimidated by the previOus records held by the partici- pating teams.
As the tournament pro- .
gressed U.P.E.l. proved to be a surprise to many of the spectators.
The Panthers played Ryerson in the opening game. Mike Morgan lead the Panthers with 26 points. The outstanding playing ability of Tryone Norman and Tejan Alleyne boosted the Panthers towards an easy victory. The‘ final score was U.P.E.l. 76, Ryerson 53.

proved to be the upset of the tournament. The Panthers faced the relentless Victoria Vikings. At the end of the first half U.P.E.l. lead the Vikings by 13 points. The Panthers displayed - their talents in a total team effort lead by Delroy Adams.
The Netted Gem
In the second half .Victoria came on strong but U.P.E.l. maintained itslcomposure for the rest of the game. U.P.E.l. edged Victoria 69 to 65.
The Panthers captured the attention of the tournament officials. U.P.E.l. proved to be the unexpected team to
watch.

The hockey Panthers re- sumed their winning ways over the weekend with a pair of victories to capture the
~Spoke’N Trac Tournament trophy.
U.P.E.l. hosted the two- day tournament at Cahill
Stadium in Summerside. Four teams —— Dalhousie, St. Francis Xavier, ‘Mt.
Allison and U.P.E.l. — took part. ‘
The championship game between the Panthers and Mt. Allison Mounties was the emotional climax to a suc- cessful first-time venture, as Ron Carragher, assisted by Steve Fulton, broke a 4-all tie at 19:53 of the third period.
At‘ the first intermission, Mt. A. had led 2—0, but the Panthers showed some force as they scored four times in

the second period.
Steve Fulton opened scoring for UPEI and was closely followed by Greg Gravel and Norman Beck. Gravel scored his second of the game as the period expired.
In the third, 'Mt. A‘. scored twice as the Panthers took a lot of penalties. With twelvex minutes goine in the frame the Mounties scored their second powerplay goal and tied the game at‘4. The final score was 5-4.
In other action Sunday, Dal. won the consolation match with a 7—6 win over St. F.X.
Games Saturday saw U.P.E.l. down St. F.X. 7—4 as the Panthers played with- out the Roche brothers, who were snowed in.
